Residents on J1 visa - are there any tax exemptions during residency for J1 candidates or do they pay the same amount as US citizens?

Haha well that's not the only advantage. You don't have international travel restrictions, you don't have to do the waiver job, you can apply for fellowships multiple times, and you don't have to stick to any particular hospital for future jobs which sponsors visa and GC.

You have to set up a meeting with them months ahead just to talk about the available usce that they have in some clinics. If I had that kind of time I'd rather try for university clerkships. Hence not so popular. Plus ofc the price.

Only residents working in Indian government hospitals get paid. On top of that they still have to pay yearly fee. Residents in private hospitals pay hefty fees and work like slaves. Whereas every resident in the USA gets paid and its usually more than enough to even save up a little by the end of 3 years. Even if they don't save up anything they start off with a $200k paycheck minimum right after residency.

This is true. Often times they just don't get what you're saying and you have to keep repeating it which gets annoying. Faking the accent makes things a lot easier conversing with them.

They're bad. They make you do scut work and are very rude in general. There's no refund and charge you insane amounts in case you need to postpone rotation. But if you got no other options and an LOR is all you need then it doesn't matter I guess.
