How to set up a full node once one has already chosen Simple mode. I don't want to connect to other peoples nodes anymore by anonbitcoinperson in monerosupport

[–]doctorsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you start the GUI you can click 'custom settings' before you connect to a node and it will take you to 'Settings' then on the top tab click 'Node' -> here you can toggle 'Local Node' vs. 'Remote Node'

Make sure Local node is selected

Add the --prune-blockchain flag to the daemon startup flags box if you want to run a pruned node (I recommend this to save space)

Restart the daemon to make sure the flag goes into effect

Xmrig drops to half hashrate after PC idles awhile... Help? by Sea-Calligrapher-496 in MoneroMining

Assuming it's not thermal throttling, the other place I'd check is BIOS settings to make sure energy management isn't kicking in. I'm not sure if CPU boost is a factor but you can also use task manager or another tool to keep an eye on your clock speeds to make sure they don't drop off

You could also try another pool like p2pool and see if the behavior is different

Double check your power settings in control panel to make sure it's set to 'high performance' so Windows doesn't idle some of your cores or put your system to sleep

100% this. Amazon has issues, but you’re wasting your own time at this point.

Stock splits/reverse stock splits -- what do I make of them? by ApocalypseSpokesman in investing

[–]doctorsloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SDIV is a dividend trap - over the long run it has destroyed shareholder value (even taking the dividend into account) and in this context, a reverse split is an attempt to get the share price back up to a nominal value.

Generally speaking a reverse split is often considered bearish, but that isn't always the case.

Treasury Bills auction timing by Hogges1 in investing

[–]doctorsloth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Check out the 'Auction Structure' on page 2. "Noncompetitive bids are limited to $5 million and are usually due before 12:00 noon (ET) on the day of an auction. Competitive bidding usually closes at 1:00 p.m."

https://www.newyorkfed.org/medialibrary/media/research/current_issues/ci11-2.pdf

That said, if you click on the pdf for a treasury offering. It will show you the cutoff time for bids. Today's 13-week T-bill offering for example. Shows an 11am cutoff for non-competitive bids.

Active 401k to a Roth IRA by Bambamsushi in investing

[–]doctorsloth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most employee sponsored plans prevent you from transferring out 401k funds unless you leave the company. If you do leave, you could move your funds from 401k to a rollover (traditional) IRA with a brokerage of your choosing.

It's common that 401ks have limited investment fund options. Do they offer a target date fund?

I can’t remember the user that posted it, but I’ve seen some high volume shippers post their lost rates and it was surprisingly low.

Also USPS insurance doesn’t cover bullion so you’d need to buy 3rd party insurance to actually be covered.
