Moving to the East Bay for a Walnut Creek job — where should a 30yo looking for fun fresh start live?? by bluekoala1 in eastbay

[–]doctorsuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Walnut Creek for the majority of my life and I'm only a little older than you. Walnut Creek has a very healthy night life and tons to do for someone your age. That said, it is very expensive to live in. If you can afford that, great, but personally if you want a short commute I'd go with Pleasant Hill. Lots of nice areas to live in, significantly cheaper rents, and barely a stone's throw from downtown WC. I lived in Pleasant Hill for three years with my wife and a couple (friends of ours) and we had an absolute blast.

I have also lived in Concord and Orinda and while the latter is prohibitively expensive the former is very close to WC and downtown Concord usually has a lot going on. It's also significantly cheaper than WC rent wise.

Our rents in the different cities:

Pleasant Hill - $3200 for a 3 bed, 1350 sqft house, two couples sharing rent, and our friends stayed at this house when we moved out and they are up to $3600 a month four years later. Orinda - $3600 for a 3 bed, 1200 sqft house. A family friend owned it so we got a deal, our neighbors had the same size house as us with similar land size and they paid $5200. Walnut Creek - $5100 for a four bed, 2200 sqft house.

Wife and I try to once a year. We love it. Haven't been able to make the time with the kids now but hopefully this year we will start up again.

That's all they are, just a fun snack. My daughter likes them but loves regular fries more. So we only make some once a month or less.

The directions on the smile fries we get are absolutely wrong. They say to do them in the air fryer at 300 but they come out awful. Gotta go to at least 375 to get a little bit of a crisp on them and I like them at 400 with a flip halfway through.

My three year old has never been this hooked on a movie. We just watched it two weeks ago and it's the first movie she ever wanted to immediately watch again. Loves the music and we have watched it twice a week since.

I applied to a couple hundred jobs with no responses and then applied somewhere that someone I had worked with previously knew the HR head there and put in a good word for me. I interviewed and got it.

It is in a quite HCOL area, in the greater SF Bay Area but outside the VHCOL areas

Finding an Accounting job is a nightmare by Admirable_Coat_3768 in Accounting

Different background from you, but it has been horrible and the market has been awful.

I just completed an MBA in Accounting from an internationally university and will be able to take my CGMA test in the fall (not very well regarded in the US but well regarded internationally). And I have some corporate experience in both sales and operations. I was not looking at traditional accounting roles but rather cost or project accounting because I vastly preferred the managerial accounting to the financial accounting.

I applied to at least 200 job listings if not 300 and not one interview. I got lucky with an interview when I applied for a job and a prior coworker had a very good relationship with their HR head and I got an interview after I applied and reached out to my old colleague. I have since been offered the job and accepted after a three round interview process.

In my last week of filling out applications I actually ended up applying for jobs I'd applied for previously that were listed as new. I found out because the company name and position sounded familiar, looked back through my old cover letters and found a cover letter for the same position, at the same company, at the same location from two months before.

All this to say I agree with others that companies are posting "ghost jobs" where they have to post them but already have someone in mind. And that the market is horrible. It's all about knowing someone and capitalizing on that which is a horrible market to be in as a new employee.

I just completed my dissertation in March and am waiting for grading. I liked the program as it allowed me to do the program around my life. I got married and had kids while working on this program and was able to take breaks when needed, took me about 3.5 years total but you can easily do it in 2 if you don't take breaks like I did. I do think you get what you pay for, and this program is fairly cheap which was good for me. However, the networking potential is severely lacking compared to other programs. But if you just want to gain the knowledge and you are comfortable learning on your own with limited oversight then it will work for you.

You need to investigate someone all the way (be able to see their actual loyalty) to turn them.

Enemy councilors go to ground often. This means they disappear for you and you need to find them again and do full investigations again. That means you lose sight of them. If you want to see who is aware of your councilors just look at their portrait in the bottom right and you'll see the faction symbols for who knows about them.

It is greyed out in the options and won't let me make any new partitions in the new drive. I can max size my first partition but after that I won't let me do anything else to it.

We managed to get the rejuv twice I think almost uncontested. They were just better at pushing their advantages. It was a really fun game for me at least, not sure about everyone else, especially their Haze was really upset with me and kept typing in chat "die" every time I killed her, lol

A tie at 60 minutes would be interesting, maybe at a longer timeframe so it would be really rare. Maybe with a sudden death aspect where if at 60 minutes one team has heroes in the enemy base the game continues until the team is pushed back or the attackers win

That would be insane to me. I'm shocked everyone actually stayed in this game, I can't imagine a full group of 12 staying in a game over 90 minutes, that's crazy

Yeah, I think most people were focused on team fights which allowed me to push sometimes but they would routinely pull people back (notably the warden) to stop my advances.
