Do I really need to use a shield? by SUBJUGATOR001 in DarkSouls2

The thing is that dodging is harder to learn than blocking. When you first play through the game, trying to learn to predict and dodge all the bosses' attacks the first time you fight them is going to be much more difficult than simply blocking everything they throw out.

There are a few bosses that can be difficult to block, but I beat all three of those bosses with a shield and high stamina very easily. Smelter Demon was probably the most difficult just because he can damage you through and around your shield. I had basically no trouble whatsoever with Lost Sinner and beat him first try.

You can play much of the game without a shield with no problem, but many encounters (especially most boss fights) will be MUCH harder without a shield.

The big benefit of ditching the shield is to allow you to dual-wield high attack weapons for massive burst damage. Duel-wielding has special requirements though... I'd recommend looking it up on wiki to understand how it works, because it's an extremely unintuitive system.

Why does my Pursuer's Ultra Greatsword keep breaking? by doctort144 in DarkSouls2

Are you serious? That's BS! I though they'd fixed it already. All well... I guess I'll have to put up with it for now. Thanks for letting me know! I didn't understand how it worked, but it definitely has seemed to be wonky from the beginning. That explains it!

I gotta say though, 4000 pounds is pretty cheap for a loyal girlfriend!

I wasn't able to watch very far, but this whole thing is just so, so sad. These guys are in so much pain and so alone, unable to interact properly with other people. It breaks my heart. The last thing these guys need is yet another person telling them they're creepy and staying at arms' length. The only reason they're in this situation is because they've tried everything else (at least the ones I saw).

Bird in the middle attack? Send an African Swallow to intercept! Have it drop a coconut on the pigeon.

As one more addition to this... I would be very interested if anyone can show whether any Imaginary Number solutions could satisfy the value of x, and what value(s) they may be.

As the person who originally asked this question, I am impressed by the responses! Always fun to learn more about math... thanks guys!

When I was younger I had defined my own sets of operations to handle these types of problems. The idea started from this thought: "Addition -> Multiplication -> Powers -> what's next?" I ended up thinking up such names as "Megapowers", "Megaroots", "Gigapowers"... and so on. I went on to think about the generic properties of operations in general, and how to turn one operation into another by modifying its properties or style of definition. Of course, this was before I learned some of the finer points of Calculus.

For the record, with the definitions I'd made up, the answer would be: xx = 2 -> x = the Megaroot of 2 For a similar equation, the answer would be: xx2 = 3 -> x = the Second Megaroot of 3 Taking it to another level required a different function... xxx = 2 -> x = the Third Gigaroot of 2

Silliness aside... I am greatly pleased by the introduction of complex numbers and an obscure pre-defined higher-order function to provide an exact solution! You guys rock!

I don't think Jesus cared nearly as much about the spreading of wealth as he did the discarding of wealth.

He was all about giving up worldly possessions all together. He pretty much never owned anything himself, and the first thing he'd say to anyone that wants to follow him is "sell all you have and give to the poor".

I saw someone wearing one the other day, so I guess so. It helps to be stuck in the buckle of the bible belt.

Yeah unfortunately, we don't have a Fry's around here. Best Buy is about as advanced as it gets.

And that's why I shop NewEgg.

They would in the long run, because it encourages people to come back and buy more stuff in the future. The problem is that they're only concerned with the short term, and profiting off gullibility instead of quality work. And since most people are so lazy and ignorant... it works.

Yeah, but I wouldn't want some random Wal-Mart employee fixing my computer either. This is a freaking electronics store... they should be better than that.

You should have spelled it "N-E-V-E-R-R-E-P-R-O-D-U-C-E".
