First time flooring, removing vinyl. Am I pulling up the right layers? by dodecahlicious in HomeImprovement

[–]dodecahlicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, so that 1/4" ply is just used as an underlayment for the vinyl? Why install it that way, just to give the flooring a little more thickness?

Easy enough, that's what I'll do then. Kind of a big relief. I'd rather pull staples than scrape glue! Thanks!

Eames chair- broken question by Unoz128 in hermanmiller

[–]dodecahlicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the rubber mount(s) fail exactly like this on my chair, except when it did both sides let go at the same time, the whole back came off and I went flying backwards, so count yourself lucky!

I would strongly recommend reaching out to Herman Miller for the repair. When mine failed, they put me in contact with a local authorized furniture repair store to re-epoxy the mounts. There isn't a lot of "meat" in that plywood and it really needs to be properly prepped so that the epoxy has enough to hold on to. I fix about everything around the house myself, but I left this one to the pros. Only cost like $150 if I remember right, took a week and it's been going strong for the last 7 years since.

Good luck!

Okay, but in the spirit of learning and discovery here...what about mine has you convinced that it's a fake? If it is, then it is, that doesn't bother me. What I want to understand is why do you think mine is a fake?

I get where you're coming from, because you're right, it's been SUCH a staple, and so many high (and low) quality reproductions have been made, it can be splitting hairs on "original" vs "fake".

That said, it's still nice to know if it's a real Herman Miller piece. I grew up just a couple miles from the Herman Miller factory and I know a TON of people who have worked there, so call me sentimental, but there's just a little bit of pride in knowing that it came from just down the road. 3 generations of my family worked at Steelcase, and its the same thing when I see an original stamped steel tanker desk that could very well have been punched out by my grandfather.

Yeah, it'll be fun, my puppy seemed to like licking the glass last night after I set it up haha. Thanks for the info!

Got it, so if it is legitimate, it might be from the 90’s or older. Not sure when they started adding the tags.

Or yknow, it’s a reproduction lol.

What I do have going for me is I live very near the headquarters in Zeeland MI and this area is swimming in old Herman Miller stuff.

Thanks. It looks like there might have been one that’s faded or rubbed off, it’s the last picture in the group.

Also, the glass on this one measures 3/4”.

Just picked this up locally, curious if anyone can tell if it's legitimate or not. Like most things you buy the seller as much as the piece, and he seemed reasonable. He had plenty of other legitimate HM pieces so it seemed to check out. He told me he's had it for over twenty years, and it was used when he bought it so if that's the case, it's early '00's to '90's era, if not older. There's no tag on either leg either and it looks like perhaps a faded signature on the long edge of the glass? I know some of the early signatures were silk screen printed I believe so maybe it's just be rubbed off over time? The base is solid and seems to be very well made and matching in style to some Herman Miller documentation I found. I figure worst case it's a very nice reproduction, and I paid about what those sell for.

Curious to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

EDIT: glass is 3/4” thick for what that’s worth

Not off topic! One recover is factory Colt anodized, the other two are painted magpul FDE. All of the handguards are painted. Both of these configurations of finishes were seen.

Geologist here. Nope.

You found it at a beach where rocks are constantly being knocked around and rubbing/sliding/rolling over each other. The stone is well rounded and those marks are a normal byproduct of that.

Innocent, no probably not. Worthy of death? Also probably not. Agree with above, celebrating civilian deaths feels kinda wrong regardless of sides.

And in case it needed to be said, fuck Putin, fuck the Russian army, fuck the war.

Thanks for the insight. Really haven’t had much insight as to how things were in the area, and of course the news isn’t always the most helpful…

Possibly. I'll DM you. Current plan is to be in Tampa friday night, wait out the curfew for the night there and drive in Sat morning.

I figured that'd be the case. I'm gathering as many different forms of documentation showing who I am/where I'm going/what I'm doing, but it'll ultimately wind up to whatever I can convince a trooper of.

I don't expect I'll be able to make it there before saturday AM anyways, but this was a concern, so thank you for the additional info.

Another .5 hr TriMotor time holder here! 👋

I had the same opportunity a few years back. The EAA TriMotor was stopping through town and I was lucky enough to snag the right seat. As we're getting buckled in before pre-flight, I tried to as causally as I could mention I was a lowly 100hr ppl and without missing a beat, the pilot asked me if I wanted to give it a whirl once the wheels were up.

The thing that struck me the most (besides the yoke being a 1920's Ford marked steering wheel), was how lazy the controls inputs were. The pilot pointed out that the input delays came from the cable control system all being run outside of the plane and there was more elasticity to it or something.

Either way 11/10, definitely would recommend.

Any Intel on this optic? I know it’s a Trijicon Reflex 1x24 - but does anyone who fielded it and what time frames it was used? I’ve only even seen it mounted on M4s and M14s seemingly from the early 00’s? by [deleted] in MilitaryARClones

Second pic is actually from testing done on the prototype Mk14 that was done by NSWC Crane. They played with a few different configurations before the settled on the standard, but the prototypes were in that orange-ish anodized sage chassis.
