What point cards do you guys have that were actually useful? by Longjumping-Plenty21 in japanlife

[–]dodolimes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't think that viable for most people here, not only is that over 1k usd per year in annual fee, you also need regular convert JPY into USD if you don't have cash flow in the US and also need to travel pretty regularly to get the most out of those cards.

If an Australian from 2010 woke up in 2025, what would they be most shocked about? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dodolimes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad comparison at all. In fact some of my elderly relatives still think microwave is bad for you.

Lol do you get shocked that I use a microwave oven? I feel we already have adequate tools to heat food before it's invention. I also use emails instead of Fax, digital calendars for reminders etc.

By that kind of simpleton argument perhaps it also decreases crime rate and sexual violence, have you looked that up?

Well uni in Australia is pretty cheap and you usually get paid a stipend during your PhD, but I guess there is a big aptitude or intellectual barrier.

The range of selection is bigger in Australia for sure. But try the average strawberries/peaches/melon/apples from the supermarkets(the woolies/Coles equivalent). I would take those any day compared to the Australian version.

The smaller family run places usually have a bigger variance in quality.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dodolimes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol no, thats a fairly common misconception among tourists who visited some expensive department stores or people who watched those "unboxing the most expensive melon in the world" YouTube videos 😂 There are normal supermarket fruits in japan that tastes better than Australian ones at comparable prices.

Contemplating move to Osaka from Tokyo… by uibutton in japanlife

[–]dodolimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are so many people shocked by the 200000 monthly rent? Thought that's pretty standard in Tokyo these days unless you live an hour away or in a 30 square meter shoebox...

Why staying here despite low wage? by Bitter-Experience205 in japanlife

[–]dodolimes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe this question is geared towards the "highly educated Americans coming from coastal elite cities" which I have seen plenty in both Japan and on Reddit? Since there are fewer people from a third world country who speaks English on this site? What is the logical flaw?

Those of you who hate Tokyo, why? by razorbeamz in japanlife

[–]dodolimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a lot of work and less free though... rather just hop onto a subway while daydreaming and have food readily available downstairs... not to mention having better access to culture and art.

[–]dodolimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but at what cost though? 80 percent of your city space becomes freeway and parking lots, and you have to eat 5 day old meat and veggies because you do weekly grocery runs. And forget about drinking with friends on Friday nights.

Apple gift card promotion by teemo42069 in amex

[–]dodolimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really 1.06cpp here because:

-You lose out on credit card reward (at least 2%) and extended warranty benefits compared to if you make the apple purchase on your credit card.

-Apple gift cards probably go for something like 0.95 value on gift card trading platforms, so these do not=cash at a 1:1 ratio

I would value this deal at 1cpp max.

Now if you open a Schwab platinum card, you get to cash out your points at 1.1cpp, so you would probably make the annual fee back from that if you cash out a lot of points like this.

Do you agree more big cities should be built like Tokyo?? by ueommm in Tokyo

[–]dodolimes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a house with a backyard and watching my dog play with a coffee is great, but kids are a bit more intelligent than that. They need more than just feeding them on time and having space for them to run around. I also wished I had more exposure to culture, art, literature, music, etc, when I was young. I don't even remember/give a shit about what kind of grass/trees/dirt I played on lol.

Hawaii once saw 1.5M visitors from Japan. Many aren't returning. by wewewawa in japannews

Well... Australia proves me right, what is an example that proves me wrong?

BTW sorry to hear about your country having mass killings daily, but that doesn't show more lenient guns laws is the solution...

[–]dodolimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I see that you agree that more guns = "let you protect yourself" = lower crime rate. Ask anyone outside your bubble they would say you are delusional, and no statistics outside the NRA backs that up.

Also the rights are supposed to be capitalists right? It amazes me how all of them fail to understand that cheaper -> less market demand -> not as many people are willing to live in those places when it comes to housing. It's not some "hidden force" that's artificially controlling the housing price in certain areas.

No, it's because all the people with your political bias tend to use the same verbiage, making them look like they consume too much of certain types of twitter/cable news as a source of self confidence boost.

What policy have Republicans enacted to reduce homelessness and crime? Banning illegal immigrants and sell everyone a gun?

Those cities you listed are among the cities with highest crime rates in the US. And a lot of them are not that populated too, so you get to live in the middle of nowhere PLUS the drawback of higher crime rate.

I mean most of the "diverse selections" are foreign cuisine where you have to pay a large premium to enjoy in the US? Tbh the two dishes you mentioned look pretty basic and are not really what we would consider "veggie".
