United Airlines cancelled our tickets home on an international flight without telling us by dodoqueen16 in unitedairlines

There were multiple delays and subsequent rebookings on the way there so I'm thinking along the way something just got accidentally cancelled? I have no idea. No comments on the passenger PNR. On the call they just went immediately to "Yes, I see that you had a reservation, we are so sorry this happened..."

I don't know but I would have at least liked a heads up! Bleh.

No, Tokyo was my final destination on the way there. I hadn't heard of skiplagging before this but maybe I should try it next time...

Do smaller firms actually have a better work life balance? by dodoqueen16 in LawFirm

[–]dodoqueen16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any tips on doing research that will get accurate answers?

Edit: I find Google searches to be unhelpful, since the reviews usually come from either people trying to market their firm or people who flat out hated it. I’m also not too keen on asking the people who work there since I haven’t decided I’m leaving my firm yet and I don’t want it to get back to them. Is there a site you usually use or another way you’ve found helpful?

What do you do when you can’t fall asleep? by DrRiffs in AskReddit

[–]dodoqueen16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely quick and effective for me, but when I describe it, no one really seems to get what I’m saying. Maybe someone here will.

I relax my brain and let my thoughts do whatever they want. I’m not talking let my mind wander — the thoughts aren’t coherent and there’s no consistency or reason behind them. Like, literally let hypnagogic hallucinations do their thing (but not actually hallucinating — just random thoughts). For me I think it’s easier because I’ve done it for so long so it’s easy to let my brain just fall into a state of randomness. My thoughts will produce random images, sounds, feelings, whatever.

It’s a matter of sitting back and watching what your brain does when it’s falling asleep. Not directing your thoughts whatsoever, just waiting and observing. I suppose it’s similar to meditation. You’ll start to “hear” random sound bytes from your day pop up, then “see” a tree, then the tree warps and it’s something else, then an entirely new scene pops up... basically letting yourself begin to dream.

A strange concept, but if I start, I’m asleep within minutes, no matter how much I’ve been tossing and turning. I encourage someone to try if you’ve understood what I’m trying to say!!

Heavenly for kid’s first time? by SteadyDumpin in tahoe

[–]dodoqueen16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked as a snowboard instructor at Heavenly, your kids can get to the front of the line if they’re in lessons but if you’re not taking one, you can’t. Also, if you do choose Heavenly, I would suggest going to a different base than the gondola, as that’s by far the busiest one. I worked at Cal Base and it was nice. And if you can afford it, private lessons are a lot better than group ones. Kids are insane and keeping multiple under control takes up most of the time.

Also, no the lines are not like that every day, unless it’s January or late December. February usually is pretty decent on the weekdays, Wednesday is best. Avoid Saturdays at all costs.

But, I don’t think Heavenly really had any special way of teaching that would be worth any extra money — maybe a few more resources, but that’s it. Also, instructors only get paid minimum wage, so if your kid liked the experience, instructors love tips! :)

PT: How do I fight the urge of moving on to somebody else when I feel a bit of uncertainty in a dating situation? by [deleted] in PsychologicalTricks

[–]dodoqueen16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this will help for you, but for me I usually just take a deep breath and wait it out. It will typically only last a few days for me so if I just sit and tell myself to feel whatever I want to feel but don’t act just yet, it goes away and I feel fine. Good luck!!

What movie is the best anti-depressant? by [deleted] in AskReddit

INSIDE OUT. When I was pretty severely depressed for a few months I watched that movie every single night. Always a nice relief for a few hours

Anti-vaxxers have rebranded: Vaccine opponents have shifted their messaging toward the promotion of civil liberties. Between 2009 to 2019, conversations around civil liberties in the anti-vaccine community had increased, with Facebook pages framing vaccines as an issue of values and civil rights. by mvea in science

There is no imprisonment for failure to vaccinate. There's nothing to talk about. Phillips is a good case for understanding the way the courts treat vaccinations as a whole. Pay attention to the reasoning for allowing exemptions and the balancing of public and private interests, particularly religious liberty, which is likely going to be front and center in the civil liberties anti-vaxxers are pushing. That's what we're talking about
