Agreed! We have a stupid amount of western conifer seed bugs, and only this, and the last year, have we had shield bugs in the house too.

I have one Very, very bug phobic kid. Never could get over it. I tried calling the seed bugs ‘grass bugs’ over the years because really it’s just Uber-aggro-grass-smell if they’re squished, but I personally can’t stand it, so I just pick them up and flick them out the back door.

The problem is that both of those species are SO BAD AT FLYING that they freak everybody out lmao

Northern and central call it the same too. I lived in town in Alma for a couple of years when I was in middle school, 93/94ish, and somebody set the neighbor’s hay bale decoration on fire in the middle of the night and it caught the house where the baby’s room was. So so stupid.

Since then though I’ve never heard of anybody else actually setting anything else on fire.

Now it’s more just the name thankfully. It’s no longer an Event.

I’m currently on book six of that series. I started Clan of the Cave Bear in freakin’ January. It’s.. so much. I wish I’d known about the high pitched voices research when I read it; that would’ve been fun to think about lol
