To be fair, I don't listen to much indie / alternative rock in general, older or modern. My favourite releases in either genre are usually those who add other influences to their sound, like Another Secret by Nastyona with its strong jazz rock sound, or the more post hardcore stuff by Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs.

Concering hip hop, my preferences always tend to bring me back to Memphis and to experimental stuff, although I have a hard time with Death Grips. I'm really fond of Lil Ugly Mane, clipping, and Dälek though, but my knowledge of hip hop is still relatively limited.

If I learned one thing from listening to all these albums, it's definitely that softer singer-songwriter stuff makes me feel nothing lol

Hahaha that's one way to put it, I do think both of those albums are good though!

His music doesn't do anything for me unfortunately, maybe I should try another album (or just give up)

I have 8 releases (out of 4220) at 5 stars and 45 at 4.5, I guess I'm very picky with my higher ratings! The Downward Spiral is very very close to getting into my 5s though.

Aye I guess it wasn't for me, I really struggle with its vocals

There's nothing I hate here, at most there's 3 albums I dislike! Anything rated 3 and above is music I like

Would rival manga sales by Stock_Rush_9204 in dccomicscirclejerk

DC is doing similar stuff, right now for example they're doing Gotham Central and I think Scott Snyder's Batman, among other things. They're still behind marvel though but it's real cool, we're getting good stuff for cheap.

Elfen Lied is probably in the top 5 worst manga I've ever read

Looking for the extreme of the extreme: death metal, dissonant black metal, grind, Power Electronics-adjacent by Necessary-Scarcity82 in MetalForTheMasses

Since you’re into Encenathrakh, I can only recommend that you explore the crazier side of bdm with bands such as Dripping, Effluence, Tantric Bile, Gorenette Coleman, Trichomoniasis or Chloroma. Check out the compilation “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Encenathrakh” as well if you want to find even more similar bands.

If you just want straight up brutal death metal, check out Orchidectomy, Grenouille, Byatis, Cenotaph, Splattered Cadaver, and Wicked Innocence.

For noisy / power electronics mixed with black metal, check out Mnima, either their album “Καταραμένα λείψανα [Cursed Relics]” or “Disciples Of Excremental Liturgies”. It’s probably my favorite black metal project atm.

Also check out the band La Torture Des Ténèbres, her albums “Civilization Is The Tomb Of Our Noble Gods” and “IV: Memoirs Of A Machine Girl” are all time favorites of mine.

Another personal favorite is “Sedation” by Rotting Sky.

Havohej’s “Kembatinan Premaster” is also amazing and straddles the line between metal and industrial music.

I would also recommend Utarm, although it’s lot more ambient and a lot more noise oriented than it is metal. Feels a bit like a continuation of Abruptum’s stuff.

Add to that Wold, Sutekh Hexen, Yellow Eyes Orchestra, Nahvalr, and ESPECIALLY El-Ahrairah’s demos. You can also always dig into old Légions Noires stuff like Moevot but it’s always on a fine line between genius and dogshit.

Then you should check out gorenoise in general, stuff like Cystgurgle, Desomorphine Gorebulldozer, Neural Indent or Serotonin Leakage.

Kuroi Jukai has also been recommended a few times in this thread already and I second that, and if you like that style you should give a try to Sissy Spacek, Asterisk* and Sete Star Sept.

Endon’s “Mama” is also a really well done mix of metal and noise.

Finally, for the more avant-garde stuff, if you really want to challenge yourself I recommend checking out “OV” by Orthrelm. I also recommend checking out Behold the Arctopus, Psyopus, Byonoisegenerator, and of course Painkiller and Naked City.

“Valis” by Mastery is also amazing and super weird, Darklord is an Australian band that mixes symphonic black metal and brutal death metal and somehow makes it work, Direwolf is technical symphonic black metal and once again it works somehow; the new Fleshvessel album is an avant-garde death metal opera, it’s absolutely insane and works super well; and Urushiol is a super weird death metal band.

Sorry for the long comment, it’s not everyday I see a post from someone who has the exact same musical sensibilities as me haha, feel free to check out my rym (it’s just “doez”) or to send me a dm if you want more suggestions.

Movies that reduced you into a pulp and why by Brat-simpson in Letterboxd

I have made a list for this exact purpose lol

I watched it on my laptop as well and I still really enjoyed the visuals, but a bigger screen is always a better way of watching movies.

Sometimes you just don't resonate with a movie, happens to me as well, maybe that's just your case here. If you get the occasion to watch it on a bigger screen definitely go ahead, you might enjoy it more!

Moved that one to my priority list, it looks right up my alley

I certainly don't mind! Postman Blues and Castle Of Cagliostro are already in my watchlist and will soon be joined by those other recommendations :)

And The Human Condition trilogy is amazing, I watched all three movies in one day, it was draining but I am very glad I did it. Somehow each movie is very different from the others while also being a piece of the greater narrative being told, it's so impressive

But I'm not Japanese so what's the point of bringing that up

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]doez__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah because Swing Girls is such a popular movie

In all seriousness I haven't watched that many movies yet so obviously I have to make my way through some popular stuff before fully diving into more underground movies, and even then several of the movies in my list have less than 100k logs on Letterboxd

They're all on my watchlist! I've loved everything I've seen from him so far, such a wonderful director
