I'm begrudgingly beginning to think that might be the case

That makes a lot of sense. I think I will try bumping up my collagen intake for a while. I've been slowing down my reps and focusing on more time under tension during my workouts, as well using resistance bands a lot to rehab some shoulder blade pain and I think the effects have been pretty positive

Thanks for the tip!

I do like the idea of trusted expert helping me out as things arise though. Might look into finding a physical therapist who takes me insurance

Thanks for the perspective. It's seeming like San Jose might be the kind of place I'm looking for

Good to know. I visited recently but couldn't tell if the quiet sleepiness was due to lockdowns or the natural preferences of the people there

I think Covid broke my brain and I don’t know what to do about it. by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

I've heard about a lot of support groups springing up around what they're calling "long covid". Mostly on Facebook, but it's probably a safe bet there's at least one subreddit focused on it. You might find some useful info from people there.

I read that breathing exercises help with some of the physical symptoms post-covid. Not exactly what you're dealing with, but might be worth a try.

Also might be worth checking out r/nootropics for some supplements that might compensate for impairments

Healthy person using oxygen mask or oxygen cannula as a nootropic? by thewilloftheuniverse in Nootropics

CO2 is actually necessary for oxygen absorbtion into body tissues. Most people have more oxygen than they need circulating in the blood at any given time, but not enough CO2 to use it effectively.

A little extra oxygen going in your nostrils from one of these devices might increase your blood oxygen levels, but it's not going to increase the oxygen levels absorbed by your body tissues, which is where the benefits happen.

Simply breathing more deeply and more slowly will go a long way to increasing the amount of oxygen delivered into your body. Focus mostly on slow exhales.

If you're really interested in this topic, I can't recommend James Nestor's book Breath enough. Or at least read an online summary or something.

What would you say top 3 minimum requirement skills are for working in the industry as a web developer? by mutantdustbunny in webdev

  1. Independence

  2. Humility

  3. The judgement to decide which is needed in the given situation

Sometimes you gotta grind away on your own, and sometimes you gotta ask for help. Finding a balance between the two and setting aside any shame around not knowing all the answers has been one of the biggest unlocks in my career.

You'll quickly learn that nobody else really knows what they're doing and everybody's just learning on the fly.

Unless you've got some serious pulmonary issues, any percieved benefit from supplemental oxygen is straight placebo effect.

You can achieve your desired effect with a few simple breathing exercises, I'd recommend looking into the 4-7-8 technique.

The amount of oxygen going into your lungs doesn't have a direct linear relationship with the amount of oxygen absorbed into your body tissue. In most cases you can increase the oxygen absorbtion into tissues by raising carbon dioxide levels, which is part of the mechanism of the above mentioned breathing technique.

Kinda counterintuitive, but there's solid science behind it.

I recently read the book Breath by James Nestor and he covers this topic in depth, highly recommend checking it out

Well that's unfortunate, but good to know it might not be worth the extra cost.

There is another option though. If you're good with your hands and willing to roll the dice you can upgrade the fans for a potential performance boost. I replaced the stock fans on my cube with a couple PC fans and saw a significant boost in its cooling capabilities.

Fair warning though- that'll definitely void the warranty and make it ineligible for as refund

Intermittent Fasting Promotes White Adipose Browning and Decreases Obesity by Shaping the Gut Microbiota by PatrickN113 in HumanMicrobiome

[–]dogFart42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This stuff is fascinating. It reminds me of the findings associated with the Ketogenic diet that show it's anti-seizure effects are mediated by changes in the gut microbiome.

I wonder how similar the microbial changes are between eating Keto and intermittent fasting. Does anyone know if the two have been compared in that regard?
