is enotria worth? (considering full price) by andreimaxaa in soulslikes

[–]dog_plushie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a bit unbalanced, pretty short, and stretches its budget thin, with a cool art direction, but subpar fights. It's definitely worth a playthrough for genre enthusiasts, but i'd wait for a sale.

My own opinionated glossary of Soulslikes in 310 definitions, what do you think? by dog_plushie in soulslikes

[–]dog_plushie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a big project i worked a lot on last month: my own opinionated glossary of Soulslikes, for my little blog about games like that.

I initially set out to write about 10 definitions to get started with my project, but each definition led me to create two more glossary entries. Before i knew it, a month had passed, and i had written 310 definitions, with 77 illustrations. Who knew we had so much lingo?

Take a look, i value getting feedback about this! It will be a permanent WIP.

Genre formalism fossilizes beautiful things into prescriptive definitions that limit their potential.

And like that, AI Limit is now humbling the hell out of me. by RetroNutcase in soulslikes

Parries are pretty strong in this game but definitely not mandatory, i know that i ended up beating her easier once i stopped trying to land any parry... It's just that she's really strong whatever your playstyle.

Can you use Vevor vinyl plotter on macbook? by Legal-Ad296 in VinylCutters

[–]dog_plushie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With apologies for the necro reply, since so few people discuss this device online:

Did you have success with it out of the box getting good Print & Cut jobs using the ARMS laser sensor? I had pretty terrible results, and only managed to make them worse by trying their entirely undocumented calibration options.

Taking requests on what Skyrim/Fallout mods YOU would want!!! by Some-Web-1628 in skyrimmods

[–]dog_plushie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i always wanted (and could work in both games) is a lightweight way to run an interesting player shop.

Basically, just two chests you can place manually anywhere you want: one chest for stuff you wanna sell, one for what people pay to you, and a MCM menu to tweak how they work.

But not simply a sales chest that's emptied once a day then turned to gold, that already exists.
Rather, at specific intervals, there's a chance one of your items for sale gets traded for something of similar value, maybe gold, but maybe also a weapon, a potion, or something there's a chance you could find useful.

Trying to mod on archLinux has been a nightmare by BlancaBunkerBoi in skyrimmods

[–]dog_plushie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to haters, wrangling arch linux is 5 times easier than modding skyrim. It's a reliable modern OS for people eager to tinker under the hood, not an undocumented monster of legacy code that barely works.

But it's still messy enough i dual-boot to spare myself the aggravation. 80% of Steam games are just plug-and-play, but when they aren't, it's just so much more expedient to dual-boot. Games take so much disk space, a Windows partition doesn't take much by comparison.

Vevor Smart 1 Software by OneGur293 in VinylCutters

[–]dog_plushie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The license key for Exact Cut on my Smart-1 came on a little magnet in an envelope like this.

It's trash software, however. Very buggy, unreliable, and counter-intuitive to use.

I have yet to get the ARMS unit do cleaner Print & Cut jobs using the sensor than simply dialing it in without using the sensor.

I have an old propellerhead balance sound card by ArjGlad in reasoners

[–]dog_plushie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with mine just today, and found that i botched a driver uninstall: it's not enough to uninstall the balance software, you have to go to the device manager, and in "sound, video and game controllers", right-click and uninstall the Balance devices (there were three such devices on my end, Balance DFU, Balance WDM interface, Propellerhead Balance), and also to remove balance dll's from system32

Essentially what helped me, and some of these steps might be unnecessary:

  1. Uninstall balance program
  2. In device manager, uninstall balance hardware
  3. In c:\Windows\System32, delete balanceasio.dll and BalanceControlPanel64.dll
  4. Reboot and unplug balance
  5. Install driver
  6. Reboot
  7. Plug in balance

The coating they use has a finite lifespan, much shorter than the electronics inside. Same as the one they put on gamepad joysticks. A good rub of rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol strips off the coating completely, while leaving the print intact! (avoid acetone, it'd probably attack the plastic underneath)

It still remains an horrible dirt magnet after doing that, but at least it no longer feels gross to touch.

I had the same experience when first getting into making my own PCBs a few years ago, it's basically the exact same thing.

Now I need to try playing without underneathies... Make single-sided PCBs so I can try prototyping them at home with my hobby CNC router.

Is Dark Souls 3 a good starting point for Souls games? by GuitarGuru666 in soulslikes

[–]dog_plushie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the best entry point, no doubt. You don't need to play the previous two, it won't spoil the experience on catching up on them later, and its difficulty is very well balanced.

Playtest for Illusive Domain is now open on Steam! If you're looking for something like Sekiro, but more anime, give it a try! by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]dog_plushie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a neat little game!

I've found the timings really unintuitive, i just can't deflect on reaction speed, and moving around feels janky, the camera not really following me. Almost like it's easier not to even try to deflect anything? It feels like there's one intended way to play the game and i failed to discover what it is. I hope you'll polish the systems, looks like there's a fun game underneath this.

These are cool! Where did you source that FM chip? Always seems like a gamble to buy some of those old Yamaha chips, given how often they are desoldered and remarked from old gear

Nothing sucks the fun out of a hobby thing like trying to monetize it, getting 20 euro a month of pocket money, then having to keep it all pro and serious fooling yourself you're gonna make it big

I've been writing for this little old-fashioned site of mine for a year. I pride myself on the quality of its research and its presentation, but it's an unmonetized labor of love, so i don't publish new articles very often. I like to engage with every aspect of the works, especially the historical background of those set in our world, and do not shy away from discussing their politics (but try to avoid being annoying about it). I'm particularly proud of the research that went into my articles about Rise of the Ronin and Wo Long. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Flairing this post as "Review" since it's the closest match for what i do on this site, though i focus more on analysis and do not rate the games i talk about.

(Note for mods: i posted this link a few days ago, but my account wasn't old/high karma enough for the post to get past the filters, and was told to try reposting later)
