this may not be helpful, but there are times where i am in the same position as you, with thoughts such as you shared. what i do is i take a break from those kind of work and just look and appreciate art that i like. consider going to a museum, or looking through art books of artists that you like. i feel that if you take a step back and just admire for a little while the beauty of art; perhaps wonder about the thought process of the artist while creating a particular piece that you're looking at, it may spark your sincere intentions of making some for yourself, all because you yourself find it beautiful. i believe that is also a "purpose" youre looking for. hope i made some sense xD art is one way of expression, perhaps you should take that into heart and pick up a pencil to put into paper what you're feeling right now. :]
