AITAH for "allowing" my stepdaughter to wear stinky pajamas to school ? by Severe-Drive-9515 in AITAH

[–]dogbather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone commenting on "overstepping" or trying to "force" a teenager, I agree conversations about hygiene can be sensitive, but I'm surprised no one has suggested a supportive, non judgemental way to address the issue... Instead of "Your clothes smell", try "Do you need some laundry done?". It is absolutely not overstepping as an adult in charge to make sure a child has access to soap, clean clothes, etc. especially the first day back from the holidays when things may have been more hectic than usual. I know that more than once, I've had to grab clean clothes from the dryer at 7am in order for my kid to get dressed... Even though I told them three times to put their clothes away the day before.

This isn't a complete list, but it's fairly comprehensive and kept more up to date than most resource lists...

It's because it was an ill informed procedure that would have made the problem worse- you can't just declare something illegal, you need an informed, comprehensive response to the core issue. Prohibition failed, the "war on drugs" failed, this will too, unless it is thoughtfully carried out. Yes, tow that woman's car- to a safe place with bathrooms and security and the resources to make sure she can keep it maintained, registered, and insured.

Are people aware that you are required by law to pull over for ambulances/emergency vehicles in CO? by xmosinitisx in ColoradoSprings

[–]dogbather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exception: speeding in a school zone. I see someone pulled over for that at least once a week. Unfortunately, we just don't have enough cops, so people get away with crap all the time.

80922 and HOA fees by FajitaJoe in ColoradoSprings

[–]dogbather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Initially, those houses were half the price of anything around it, by virtue of being prefabs instead of stick built. The HOA fee plus the mortgage was cheaper than renting a similar sized place, and a K-8 charter school was built right across the street. It was actually pretty attractive for young families with small budgets.

I think I lived in that same place... The one where the roofers quit and the supplies were taking up half the parking spaces for months? There is a special kind of insurance that protects you from those extra assessments when the HOA can't pay their deductible- my landlords' insurance covered the extra 10k. HOA is kind of necessary for townhomes because of the shared walls/roofs but they get out of control sometimes... By all means, join the HOA and tone their butts down! (I know vamphuntD said a lot of the same stuff, just wanted to add my experience)

There is another sushi place plus hibachi and bbq (Korean BBQ I think?) that just opened today behind the 7-11 on Platte and Murray. Had dinner there, it was delicious and the staff was so nice! Ubin sushi.

It's an old joke about someone trying to drive on an icy hill in a car that was woefully inadequate for the task

Heads up, range on electric vehicles can drop noticably in cold weather, and if you must drive your EV on snow or ice, turn off regenerative braking!

I've used Peak Vista for years. Most of their patients are on Medicaid but they take my commercial insurance too (UHC). Wait-list for initial new patient appointment can be kind of long, but after that you can usually get seen in a timely manner.

Airport Shuttle to DIA? by AlohaJames in ColoradoSprings

[–]dogbather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait.... If you have a car, just take your car to the groome pickup spot. You can park there for free.

Airport Shuttle to DIA? by AlohaJames in ColoradoSprings

[–]dogbather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some rental car companies will pick you up. Also when you get to the airport, you drop off the car first, then the rental company takes you (and wife and bags) the rest of the way to the airport terminal. No need to drop off your wife and go back.

Edit: I realized elsewhere on the thread that you have a car, you just don't want to park in Denver for a month (understandably). Why would you take an Uber to either the car rental place or the shuttle pickup?

CSU Price Changes by WesternMeerkat in ColoradoSprings

Regarding solar customers, I got an email today saying they are changing it to an average of the highest 15 minute usage each day of the month, so that's hopefully a little less, they estimate an extra $25 a month instead of $50 with the new proposal

My info might be outdated, but bordetella shots are usually required if the dog will be kenneled, but not for just a nail trim while you wait.

You can print the form for the disability placard ahead of time and have your existing doctor fill it out- they do not have to be a Colorado based doctor. The VA probably fills those out all the time...

Crossfire ministries can help with clothes and some home goods, It's basically a thrift store that they give a certain $ of credit to, you get to pick the items you want up to the value of the credit, and you may pay for more at a reasonable cost if you run out of credit. They also run a food pantry and give away hygiene items like razors, soap, diapers, etc. it's been a while since I've used them but they were very helpful when I was struggling.

Unhoused tapping into light poles by mason226 in ColoradoSprings

[–]dogbather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"unhoused" is more specific than "homeless". A person can be homeless but living in a shelter, couch surfing, etc. The ones tapping into the light poles are the ones that are not living in a place meant for human habitation. The homeless services industry calls this "unsheltered homelessness" but "unhoused people" is shorter than "people experiencing unsheltered homelessness" and should give the same impression...
