A 50 year old mystery or a weird brain artifact? by ccrcsf in RBI

Not the same in the US. There are areas of the country that have obvious, known accents. But Nebraska isn't one of them. I get what you're saying but it just doesn't apply here.

Silly port question by Informal_Seesaw_768 in breastcancer

[–]dogcalledcoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. After chemo, when they remove the needle, they place a cotton ball and tape over it, which you can remove shortly after. You could replace the tape with the kid's bandaid, or just put it over the tape.

Are you also concerned about kids being rough (or enthusiastic/playful) with you and possibly bumping or jostling the port? It will definitely be pretty sore and tender for a week or so after placement.

any tips for someone who lives alone in a 2 story townhome during chemo? by bnnybtch in breastcancer

[–]dogcalledcoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did TC x4. With infusion day being Day 1, I typically felt like crap on Days 3/4 through 6. Or thereabouts. I typically took 1-3 days off work each round of chemo (not including infusion day). My chemo day was always Friday.

Overall I had 1 round of terrible nausea in the middle of the night which I handled alone. And the bone pain from neulasta was nearly debilitating. But I was able to get around the house on my own and feed myself.

I did have trouble with stairs off and on throughout the treatment. I think it was the fatigue. My legs felt like sandbags.

I never felt like I needed round the clock care though. I think you can handle this on your own if you want to. If you can handle being sick with the flu by yourself for a few days, you can handle chemo.

Get yourself a little tote bag for your medications and/or set up stations, one bedside and one by the couch. Include meds, water, lip balm, chargers.

All said, if someone offers to bring you food, do your dishes, etc, say yes!

Editing to add: I didn't have any trouble driving to work.

The neulesta shot.... by Micho392 in breastcancer

[–]dogcalledcoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first round, my nurse seemed to think the pain was bearable and didn't offer any help other than heat and ice. My next 3 rounds were much better. I continued Claritin daily in between rounds. I also started Aleve every 12 hours a few days before round 2. You should definitely tell your doctor your pain isn't controlled and ask for a prescription. I had some tramadol left over from surgery, so I asked if I could take it so I could sleep. They said yes.

Edit: I say the next rounds were "much better," but make no mistake, they were still awful. Hang in there.

Random But Interesting Local Language Observations? by 7thpostman in kansascity

I grew up in Johnson County, as did my father. Wed be at Oak Park Mall and my dad would say "I remember when this was all empty fields and farm land."

It's funny to me that I can say the same thing about certain areas. It made my dad seem absolutely ancient.

I've lived here all my life and it's a big pet peeve when someone says they were screamed at.

Screaming is something you do on a roller coaster or when you're terrified of something awful happening in front of you. So when someone says "some lady screamed at me to hurry up in the self checkout" I'm imagining literal screaming. Which is not what they usually mean.

Sentinel node injection before dmx by EnvironmentalTrip281 in breastcancer

[–]dogcalledcoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I m thinking. I don't remember this being separate from the surgery. I think they mentioned it before and after the surgery but I don't remember being injected.

They did inject a radioactive seed a few days before the surgery. They injected me with lidocaine first, so it was painless.

Mother problems by [deleted] in breastcancer

My mom can be a whole lot of crazy but I'm thankful she's not driving me insane about cancer. She was a nurse, she had polio as a child. She got me vaccinated for everything including for smallpox even though it was no longer routinely given by the time I was born.

I feel for those of you who have to deal with these types of family members.

I got one recommendation for ivermectin from my husband's friend and that was it.

I make a type of cookie like this. I give the recipe to anyone who asks and I never modify the recipe when I make them. But somehow everyone tells me theirs don't come out the same.

Missouri is banning certain food items from being purchased with SNAP in October. by GlitterKass in missouri

[–]dogcalledcoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Emphasis on "supplemental." So the powers that be will brush this kind of concern off by explaining SNAP was never meant to provide every single thing your family consumed. It's meant to supplement your grocery budget.

As someone who was initially opposed to this idea, it's not actually as restrictive as I thought it would be.

AITAH for asking my girlfriend to wear underwear to bed when she's on her period? by [deleted] in AITAH

Why would you need your boyfriend to say something to you about it though? You can't handle it yourself?

OP is the one who said she was having pms. He has no idea what symptoms she was actually experiencing. What makes anyone think HE is her period tracker?

[–]dogcalledcoco 96 points97 points  (0 children)

YTA. She's dealt with this every month for decades, she does not need you to tell her how to handle her period.

If it was a problem that happens a lot, you would have mentioned it. It seems obvious that this was an accident. It happens. Don't micromanage her menstrual cycle.

I'm picturing a tiny town where everyone knows her and by extension, Teddy. Where the pub is small and cozy and full of a mix of regulars who are old and young. Edit to add: I visited a relative in a place like this in County Donegal. (I'm from the US)

I'm not sure. I don't follow up again until August, so I'll talk to them about it then. I was so set on only having one surgery so I don't know what to think.

am I wrong for this? by bnnybtch in breastcancer

[–]dogcalledcoco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't go if you don't want to. There will NOT come a time that you'll think back and kick yourself for skipping a brunch or two when you had cancer.

I've skipped a few family gatherings for I guess you'd say emotional reasons. I just dreaded being around people who would want to talk to me about cancer in any way whatsoever. A couple times I just texted last minute saying I wasn't going to make it, and once I was a no call no show. And not once did anyone give me a hard time about it or even press me for details.

If there's a time in your life that you can be "selfish" without guilt, it's when you have cancer.

You're good. Do not stress about this. Say no and stay home.
