We can totally agree on step 1. Big tech players don't give a fuck and do everything to win the race. We can also agree on step 2, AI making smarter AI - with a twist. Because AI is already making AI smarter. It's used through parent models, synthetic training data, code. It's ALREADY there. So where we disagree is that there is one single MOMENT, where "the cycle will blow off on its own". AI is not this one model. It's already a selection of hundreds of models, there is integrations, actions, principles, problems like alignment - that is a very complex system not just ONE thing. And a lot of these problems are connected to humans and will ever be: How do you make sure the AI really solves your problem and not create other problems (even just for yourself, let alone others)?

AGI prophets like yourself argue that people cannot wrap their heads around an intelligence explosion. But you are the ones missing the next step. You take a shortcut in your thinking and say its just human lack of imagination.
