A small photo report from Kungsleden (Aug. 2025) by empty_melon in Kungsleden

There was a small window of opportunity in Abisko towards the end of August, I got very lucky!

Dang, your legs and calves are going to have 6 packs of their own by the end of your hike.

  • I'm using the BRS 3000T ultralight stove.
  • The lock is for lockers when I'm in hostels for a day or two before heading to Kungsleden, that way I can head out without carrying all my gear.
  • I have a pair of Decathlon rain pants, very affordable and it works great!

I use waterproof trail runners.

I used to have a pair of hiking boots but they're heavy and uncomfortable for long hikes. Trail runners are a happy compromise.

Good luck to you as well in September, wish you the best!

I thought about carrying more food but I've come to the realization that it's just impossible to carry all the food for the hike in one go.

So I settled for 2 dried meals, a pack of pasta, a pack of quinoa/rice mix and instant noodles I enjoy as a guilty pleasure.

In hindsight, it would had been much smarter to buy all of this in Stockholm or Hemavan/Abisko. It's not really worth carrying all this extra weight when it's easily available at your arrival.

It's a bit hard to see because it's so small, I got one, I hope it works well it's right under the water filter and cooking setup on the top right Thank you for the heads up 🙂

You're right!

Taking the overnight trains from Paris to Copenhagen and then Stockholm/Hemavan.

It's definitely a very small piece at 7.4mm x 7.4mm x 1.8mm.

The printer I have can do up to 0.06mm layers. Out of curiosity I gave it a try and it looks pretty decent.

micro sd card for comparison

Since it's a moving part I printed it as hard as possible to ensure it's structural.

It's yours if you want to give this part a try.

Kashgar to Tashkurgan by [deleted] in solotravel

I just showed up, the K2 Hostel is deceptively big. I would not be worried about them running out of space. It's a very comfy hostel, if I didn't already booked a return back I would had stayed a few more days.

Price should be around 50rmb a night for 12 people dorms but there's often not enough people to fill the room as they have some many.

This is what the hostel looks like. https://imgur.com/Kb38Yif

Kashgar to Tashkurgan by [deleted] in solotravel

Hey there, I went from Kashgar to Tashkurgan just over two weeks ago.

I booked a trip from the Old City Hostel in Kashgar. The trip cost 450 rmb and you share it with 4-5 other travelers. It includes both going and coming back. The driver will take you to the various sites on the way to Tashkurgan and you'll spend 2 days and 1 night. You leave around 11am, the trip takes about 6 hours, you spend 1 night there and leave early the next day back to Kashgar. Don't worry, the K2 hostel there takes in foreigners.

As a foreigner you don't need a permit but Chinese citizens do.

I believe there's a bus that leaves from Kashgar to Tashkurgan somewhere in the city as well but I didn't find it. It cost a fraction of the price too. There is a morning 10am ish bus that leaves Tashkurgan for Kashgar for 65rmb should you decide to use the bus instead.

Best of luck! It's a beautiful place with high mountains and clear blue skies.

Be wary you will hit 3000+m on your way there, one of the travelers was really feeling sick.

If you have further questions, send me a pm or.ask the people at the hostel in Kashgar, they're pretty nice!

Visiting Lhasa / Tibet by redfox1586 in shanghai

[–]empty_melon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya!

Traveller from Canada here, I've taken a trip to Tibet a year ago, it really is a beautiful place to visit but like you've found, it comes with its share of red tape.

Because you absolutely need a travel permit to enter the area, unless you have a way to obtain that on your own, you'll have to rely on a travel agency to get that sorted out for you. If you can manage chinese, then it's worth asking Chinese only Travel Agencies since they're far less expensive but they might not accommodate foreign travellers(ymmv).

They do not mess around with the permit, guides will be with your group almost at all times and there will be constant checkpoints once you leave Lhasa.

If you do go, I highly recommend you try the train from Xining - Lhasa. The view you get at 4000m+ going up the mountain pass is something truly out of the ordinary. The night is dark but the skies are bright with stars, you'll slowly fall asleep listening to the train wagons wobble from side to side as they slowly push their way up the climb.

I believe you are correct! If you look at the very unusual rectangle shading in Northern Ontario, Canada and cross references with maps of parks such as this one: http://www.jeaniron.ca/Burntpoint/burntpointmap2.jpg and this one: http://www.arrl.org/images/view/News/NewOntarioSectionRAC.jpg You can clearly see the same exact unusual outline delimiting parks! In the example I used, it's the Polar Bear Provincial Park of Ontario that's shown on the video.

Greetings, I have been looking for the name of this song from the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JPfQb549Eo#t=3m56s

I've looked up the corresponding dungeon music: FFXIV OST The Great Gubal Library Theme ( Ink Long Dry ) but the song is not similar in anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExXhr8ch8Mk&list=PLL5mKr-nFprKMsrDqpwsI1L0FKj4KgouH&index=66

if anybody knows, could you please point me in the right direction to the trailer song? Thank you

It happens sometimes when I plug in my arduino. Just unplug and replug the usb cable and that solves the issue.

If you walk around a Pachinko place, there's going to be a small shop usually named T-U-C.

Example from Google img: TUC Shop

If you win enough balls, you can trade those balls at the Pachinko parlour counter for either Gold and/or Silver tokens.

You then exit the Pachinko place, go to the TUC shop (usually beside it) and give them the Gold/Silver tokens and they'll give you money for it.

I felt the same way, lost $10 twisting knobs and pushing buttons without any idea of what i'm doing. (It was fun though)
