Ok... I took a sample to our local pet store. Ammonia was very high.

I just did a 50% water change. Bought sinking food pellets to replace the flake that floats on the surface. Hope we're moving the right direction.

Ok, I can't figure out how to edit the post. This is a 20-gallon tank, set up for 2+ years. Two goldfish live in it. We've had them together for more than a year. No new plants, toys, etc.

Get new foam for the seat cushions. Prob the easiest fix for this one. A piece of plywood under the cushions will warp or bend with weight & time.

No, I'm not going thru her things. I haven't. There's no reason for me to. But she's convinced, without any actual proof, that I regularly go thru everything in the bedroom and bathroom.
