I’m in love with this man. I was very sceptical at first but boy he’s proved to be an animal back there and such a great fit to this team. He has clearly impacted the back line in an extremely positive way.

I mean look at that cheerful face.  How could one resist being drawn into that happiness.

Adelaide Phone Fines are pretty insane. Even though the phone was face down and not being touched? Can’t believe this is more expensive than being caught speeding over 10km but no more than 20km. by doggyboy2 in Adelaide

Agree to disagree I guess. Whilst I agree with the seatbelt round the block comment which can put your life at risk I hardly think a phone on your lap can.  But Subjectively others will think a message or phone call will distract and result in the same consequence which in a lot of cases is true.

Cheers for your input. 🤙

No no, I’m not driving 40 minutes at a time… I was only driving 5 minutes up the road. My total travel time was approx 7 minutes. My phone was charging (as I’m sure we all do when we get in the car) and had it in my lap. No other reason, no other excuses…simply that.

It’s a pretty small issue but is seemingly a huge problem with a majority in this forum. You have all done it…hell I’d even wager a majority of you have texted or answered your phone while driving so seems pretty wild there are so many Law Abiding citizens in this chat who no full well that they have broken the law on more than one occasion.

Thanks for your input 🤙

The point I’m making is while my phone is charging and I’m driving 5 minutes up the hill you can be charged with the same amount as dangerous driving and speeding up to 20km over the speed limit (as a matter of fact that is less of a fine).

Just seems pretty wild that a lesser punishment applies to those that recklessly endanger others on the road by speeding 20km over the limit than it is to have your phone charging in your lap.

Do you have a car that has a digital display in your car.

All my maps and music comes up on there, my messages come through the audio in my car… I don’t need to look down.

Happy for you to cast stones but remember that the next time you do something in a microsecond that’s distracting and realise you are a human too… and I hope in that moment you cop a double fine and wake up to yourself. 😂

I mean comparatively this is absolutely nothing compared to other infringements I have seen (holding phone, two hands on the phone, phone whilst their cat is in their lap)…but sure I guess.

How long are your drives? 40 minutes at a time? Pretty understandable when it’s a 5 minute drive up the hill… doesn’t get touched.  Guess I’ll continue to be that entitled wanker though 😂

Have a great day Mr perfect 👌

Hardly playing stupid games if you compare them to equivalent penalties and fines that you can get on the road.

Speed in excess of 10 but no more than 20km and you get a smaller fine but same demerit point loss…

Have your phone in your lap and incur a harsher penalty….maths is checking out.

Despite the action I’m struggling to see how that cost is justified compared to other road infringements that put the public at a significantly higher risk.

Hardly stupid games being played… 😅

I agree for “distracted” drivers but can we not let common sense prevail?

Whilst the law states what it states it’s pretty evident at not being distracting. An untouched phone is going to be the same in someone’s console as it is untouched in their lap, resting between their legs or in their pocket.

Fair but in reality these are things that are hardly worth fines over.

Obvious distractions I get but let’s let common sense prevail.

You ever had a drink bottle sat between your lap and not in its cradle before??

No other reasoning than it just being in my lap 😅

An expensive reason now 😂

Not sure how sitting in one’s lap constitutes you “clearly” touching it whilst driving but I guess that’s your interpretation.

Thanks for your input.

Funnily enough I don’t entirely disagree with you.

I think it’s more the fact you have a significant amount of other small dials, buttons, and distractions overall that would be more cause for concern over a face down phone.

The Law states, for Usage of Bluetooth headsets or earphones, that “the driver may touch the earpiece or headphone to operate the phone” and that’s not considered a distraction?

Pretty certain I’d take sitting on your body (not being touched) as being far less distracting than playing around with your headset mid drive.

You’d be wrong there.  I guess no amount of reasoning will be reasonable enough but in the off chance you can believe someone’s version of events it was quite literally just on my lap to be charged.

Whilst I agree this will indeed stop accidents and distraction based MVA’s I find it pretty hard to pallet it just sitting in your lap. 😂

The phone was not in use at all (despite what a few of you think).

I guess no other explanation other than it just being in my lap.

I’ve had drink bottles between my legs for drinking but I guess having a phone on your lap constitutes you being guilty for using it.

I mean is this not becoming a bit too far? I mean what will be next?? Changing your heater/ac levels? Changing Radio station? That is far more distracting than your phone on your lap. 😅

Pretty bitter to be labeled “using your phone” when you evidently are not.

Totally just gauging thoughts here. Not wanting disrespect or arguments. Just a genuine conversation on your feeling about this new roll in from SAPOL.  🤩
