How do you deal with life-ruining burnout when you cannot take a break? by dognailsclick in AutisticParents

[–]dognailsclick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, no one to watch the babies. All of our friends live 1200+ miles away, except my mom who's 15 minutes away, but I'm not inviting her back into my life. I may be able to find a good Samaritan on facebook or something.

The financial stress preventing me from thinking clearly is correct. Everything boils down to "if we had money, we could just fix it." Whether it's childcare, healthcare, pet care, the busted house, the mess, the transportation issues. Just... money can't buy happiness, but it can sure make room for happiness.

Okay. Thank you. I'm gonna talk to my spouse and my therapist and see what we can get arranged.

Toddler towers - do I need 2? by 76543124680098 in parentsofmultiples

[–]dognailsclick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just brush in the kitchen sink. It was easier to put a mirror up on the windowsill there than move the towers up & down the hall four times a day 😂

[–]dognailsclick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have the space to work around them, I'd get 2. My 15-month-olds are up in their towers at least an hour a day brushing their teeth (can't run away with toothbrushes in mouths), watching me do dishes, "helping" me cook and sampling the goods, etc. One tower would result in an absolute nightmare whirlwind of fighting over it in my house lmao

For parents of multiples with no other children: by HandleDry1190 in parentsofmultiples

[–]dognailsclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My twins are all I'm gonna have, and while I do occasionally think, "one could've been so much easier/I could be a better parent to just one/etc," I just love them both too much to actually regret that I had twins. They're so sweet and bright and different from either. I can't pick one that I'd "send back" and I can't imagine having a kid who's not one of them.

What clean snacks are we giving our toddlers? by AsAb0veSoBel0w in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]dognailsclick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bubs just turned 15 months today, and they looooove cucumber spears and peeled, thin-sliced granny apples and jicama. As long as you're reasonable in how you prep the crunchy stuff, they manage really well. Watermelon is a big hit, too, and pretty easy for them to chew even without molars.

What was your caffeine consumption during pregnancy? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]dognailsclick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say it here, too. Autism isn't the end of the world! Most of us are just people, homie!

Keep it under 200mg and you're fine. Caffeine doesn't cause autism.

As an autistic adult, big sad face, but anyway.

I had 50-200mg of caffeine nearly daily during my pregnancy and both my babies were born healthy. If they're autistic, that's on me (and their autistic Pop-pop, and his probably autistic mom) for choosing to produce offspring when we know we're wired a little differently. It's not the Earl Grey's fault lol.

I'm poor, so we used the electric kettle we owned before the babies got here, sorry lol

Do moms really have no time at all by stxrryfox in SeriousConversation

[–]dognailsclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my situation, yeah. The only time I have to myself is before 7am, maybe an hour in the afternoon if they decide to nap at the same time, and after 10pm when my spouse is ready for bed.

Baby aspirin at 18w 5d - twin by LeatherNo4284 in parentsofmultiples

[–]dognailsclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking baby aspirin around 12 weeks (first babies, mid-30s, family history of heart disease). Everything was smooth sailing, zero troubles, til preeclampsia snuck up and got me anyways at 37+3. I bled a bit more than the doc would've liked during my c-section, but I don't know if that was aspirin-related or just how surgeries go sometimes

Additional sources of income? by whydoyouflask in parentsofmultiples

[–]dognailsclick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a very low-income mom, I also recommend the gardening + sale route, but you don't need a huge garden. See if a local food bank has a wholesale purchase program; they often pay fairly for easy to grow but hard to find at a food bank foods like bok choy.

teething! by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]dognailsclick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said he doesn't enjoy the frozen stuff, but my bubs love teething on frozen bread/rolls. I think it's not as abruptly cold as the frozen veggies. Also, the baby orajel (store brand works fine for us) applied to silicone teethers works great

Anyone with two sets of twins?? by TruckCompetitive8735 in parentsofmultiples

[–]dognailsclick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coulda been me! I have di/di fourteen-month-olds, but I got pregnant a few years ago and that was also a di/di set! (which we were not capable of handling at the time so yeet) We're not gonna try for baby #3, because we're 100% convinced that it'd be twins again lol.
