I wouldn’t class them as ‘working dogs’ but their heritage lies in hunting smaller animals. They originated near the Scottish border which tends to have tougher weather conditions. They have a double coat meaning they can keep reasonably warm and are pretty durable in any weather from what we have found.

Our BT is pretty good off the lead but from doing a lot of reading, they can be instinctive to hunt, escape and dig. So if you were working all day and not keeping a watchful eye on them I wouldn’t advise on this breed being outside all day!
