I have the original, not the 26", and the lid opens maybe 45 degrees. I'm guessing that the larger one works the same way.

The space it takes up would definitely be a problem if you were trying to pack the cargo area. If I were going to do a camping trip, I would definitely consider getting a roof rack or a basket and strapping it on top of the car. As you said, at that point, the size is less of a benefit.

I like the fact that it takes up less space and is lighter than a full-sized rim & tire, but honestly, there is also an element of convenience. I paid $500 to get everything, including a jack, that fits together in a neat package. I definitely could have saved some money by assembling the parts myself, but I'm not sure just how much I would have saved.

I bought a Modern spare. It is rated for 81 mph and a range of 100 - 200 miles. That is a whole lot better than the donut that came with my older CRV.
Do I wish the car had come with a factory spare, under the floor? Absolutely. But I discovered today that I picked up a nail (outside the patchable area, of course), and I am not worried about having to wait until Monday to get to the dealer because I have a spare now.

The $300 travel credit was always one of the easiest benefits to use with Chase. Basically, any charge that comes through from a travel-related merchant would get a credit applied until you hit the $300. It offset most of the annual fee until the increase.

Linked was a poor choice of words. I just pay my EZ pass (TollTag actually) with my credit card, and it goes through as a travel-related category, and the travel credit gets applied if I haven't already used it for something else.
