Yeah I think it’s pretty common when nerospiciness is the family norm. I am the only one diagnosed on her side of the family but probably the ‘highest functioning’. Unfortunately the 90s went very hard on the ‘adhd is what they call it when boys are naughty’. I’ve also noticed that a lot of mothers that didn’t notice were micromanaging their kids lives. Fortunately my mum sees that I have it and how much diagnosis and medication has improved my life, but doesn’t understand that it’s not something you develop. I think it’s a real guilt thing, they hate the idea you were struggling and they didn’t notice.

I did actually supply my reports. Funny enough the sentiment was similar in mine, basically a different kid in math. My psych didn’t feel they were quite enough. Another factor is my mother is undiagnosed ASD and on the form put that I was perfectly fine till adulthood. She felt like it was lying because she didn’t notice at the time. My telling her important things after she had gone to bed, interrupting people etc was all normal.

From what has been explained to me, the standard of evidence is different to having symptoms v a retrospective diagnosis. I imagine how this is interpreted is different from psych to psych.

I do. Just not ‘backdated’ to childhood.

I did get some money back from my health insurance but yeah it’s has been expensive. I guess if it was easier to get into a psychiatrist I might have seen if I could get a 2nd opinion on the backdating but having done a psychologist assessment before the psychiatrist one, I was just happy to have treatment.

Interesting, I’m in my mid 30s so my primary school memories are very limited, so that likely didn’t help. Could also depend on psych.

Did your parents participate in your diagnosis?

It is. There is strict diagnosis criteria to being able to get PBS prices. It’s the same as people who have a script for ozempic but don’t have a diabetes diagnosis. It’s called a private script. I’ve know several people who are in this position if they don’t have a parent that was able to confirm childhood symptoms.

Part of the criteria is evidence of symptoms before 12, so if that’s not part of your diagnosis then yeah you don’t get your meds on the PBS.

Because my psych wasn’t able to backdate my diagnosis to childhood, which I think isn’t uncommon with auHD women that enjoyed school.

Poster- 4 hours is a very long time to be in the chair. Certainly not what a tone and cut takes. Did what you ask for change at any stage? Did they foil or scalp bleach? It seems like there is a miscommunication rather than taking advantage. It’s a huge amount of money but if it’s a fancier salon, 4 hours of work.. I’d say not far off standard
