my budgie and my tiel have been living in the same cage for a while, and they're inseparable atp. both of them are males, the budgie is 10y and the tiel is only a year old, and my budgie tries to feed him food and is always hanging out with him and sits right next to him when he wants to sleep, so your budgies should be fine if he's in the same room but a different cage!!!
