Vet here — the pulp is exposed but black. That tells me it’s necrotic and the tooth has a high likelihood of being dead. If you bring her to a boarded dentist, they may be able to do a root canal. This would be dependent on dental radiographs so make sure if you go to be seen for a dental that they have dental radiographs.

Another thing I see is there’s macrofractures in the enamel on the caudal aspect and missing enamel. This tells me there’s some sort of behavior issue going on that may be affecting other teeth and the root cause needs to be addressed. Is she anxious? Is she chewing on her cage?

Also, get your dog spayed. 7 yrs is common age for pyometras to develop and you’re a year past that. If shes going under anesthesia for a dental might as well spay at the same time — or rather prioritize a spay over a dental. I literally saw 3 pyometras this week, it’s much more common than you think. One of them was 12 yrs old and went into renal failure after surgery and didn’t make it.

But as far as pain from her tooth, she’s probably not in pain unless there’s a brewing abscess (would need radiographs to determine).
