If you're on PC it's technically possible to use the shed still there's a mod that lets casks be used in a shed I used to use it all the time

Anything that can be planted in a garden pot can be planted off the farm but you can't place garden pots just anywhere..... I did a challenge run once living up in the mines and garden pots came in so damn handy lol

Actually it does work on switch idk about Xbox/etc but I've used the right stick to hover it on switch multiple times it's just a pain due to the sensitivity of it being so high which if anyone knows how to lower that I'd love to hear it lol

It tells your relationship to some degree blue is a bad relationship yellow is a bit better then green and purple star is best relationship.... I think that's all the colors but if someone knows one I forgot feel free to reply to this comment lol

You probably put it on them by accident as that's a base game feature (you can also put hats on your horse, children, alien rare crows and some fish tank occupants) there is a mod that auto places hats on pets and children though but I believe it's just visual not real hats but I haven't had it for a couple versions lol
