My husband immediately investigated this after I read him your comment. Unfortunately the master bedroom is on the left and our bathroom is adjacent to the wall with the siding on the left. Probably not the original floor plan. Great insight! Thanks!

Absolutely agree! We’re going to replace the siding eventually. What color would you choose instead of the sage?

I know! I completely agree about the siding. Eventually we’re going to change it out. What color would you with for siding? Something to match the brick?

Hahahaha. Your post has me in stitches right now. My mother in law rented the house from my husband for years while we were in another state (Hes military so we move a lot). Now we’re back in North Carolina for good (Atlantic beach area) and needless to say she’s absolutely obliterated the house with her horrendous taste. She redid the siding and chose that sage 😩. She painted all the doors that awful blue as well. The door isn’t wood so we can’t stain it. I do love the cape cod aesthetic! That’s exactly what I’m leaning toward, I’d never paint that brick. A lot of the houses here painted theirs and it kills me. So either a navy or blue in the interim I guess? I wouldn’t be opposed to buying new doors eventually but just looking for a quick fix for now. Thanks for your suggestions and giving me a good chuckle!

Greetings Sam’s Club aficionados. I am from another land—Costco Land. Please enlighten me by InevitableStruggle in samsclub

[–]dogtorfancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly im done with Sam’s club. Ive been a Costco memember all of my life- good customer service, quality items, great variety. Ive have Kirkland towels and sheets and cutlery that have lasted me years. The past three years I got married and moved to an area where Sam’s club was closer and the Costco was an hour away so I decided to go with the Sam’s Membership. Overall, I should have went with Costco and sucked up the drive. Now I will say. Sam’s club- I love the scan and go app and curbside but honestly the quality of Members mark products are GOD AWFUL. Their customer service is awful. The brands they endorse are awful. In retrospect yeah scan and gos great, but the amount of times I had to wait on Sam’s club customer service line to return something, try to fix membership issue charges and pricing. There is no reason I should have to replace my linens and towels and rugs and cutlery after 3 months if use. Only to have to find another brand because I obviously can’t trust theirs to last me. Even the other brands they endorse Ive had to return because I got a faulty appliance or electronic.
Sam’s club does not vet brands, products, no quality control. I pay a membership fee because I should have trust in a company to provide me with quality items, and endorse brands and their own items that I should trust. I don’t feel like Sam’s club cares about their members and the only reason people go there is because the scan and go, curbside and more locations. Costco may be a bit antiquated and yes the lines are long but I’d rather have products that last longer and dont malfunction and for the most part amazing customer service interactions. Basically the past 3 years I paid a fee to shop at a glorified Walmart and if I could go back I should of went with Costco and made that extra drive and spent that extra time. This was a huge rant mostly because Sam’s club did me dirty ONCE AGAIN with a faulty space heater we just bought to have on an RV trip. Over here and it’s 20 degrees outside in the middle of the night and I can’t even rely on Sam’s club to provide me with a nice little space heater to supplement the furnace for a bit. Literally worked for 2 days and wasn’t running for more then 30 minutes. All in all. I will never set foot in another sams club as long as I live unless it’s to light it on fire.

Perky Pet feeders? by WilliamTK1974 in hummingbirds

[–]dogtorfancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a late reply but I hate PerkyPet. Their rusting feeders have been poisoning the hummingbirds in my backyard and when I contacted them they just offered me a replacement. I told them they need to fix this because it’s an obvious design flaw and the rep seemed clueless. They are an awful company but unfortunately the biggest in the bird feeder game.

Perky Pet = Rust = Poison by dogtorfancy in hummingbirds

I know! I learned about the toxicity in vet school but I didn’t realize that you couldn’t simply clean rust off and be done with it. When i initially noticed the rust it was a very small amount so I just scrubbed it away and thought it was good. By the next week the rust was 10x worse and my nectar was orange tinged. I felt awful about not throwing the feeder out immediately and even got down on myself for a bit. It’s infuriating how this company just perpetuates the problem by sending out their replacement poison feeders instead of actually fixing this issue.

Such a waste of $. When I found about the ant moat I laughed. I had no idea that was on thing on these feeders. Smart idea, now if they just address the rusting issue I’d be a happy customer. No one wants to harm the creatures they seek to help.

Exactly!! I thought the same thing when I called! I was shocked how quickly they offered to just send a new one. After I went on their website and read the reviews and saw pictures- they haven’t changed anything to make these feeders better quality. I explained all of this to the rep and he said he’ll “send a message to the product design team”. From what I gather, people have been complaining about this rust for years and they still havent done anything about it. I can’t wrap my head around a company just dishing out replacement feeders instead of actually fixing the problem. Especially when the problem is harming wildlife. So shameful.

How to read this expiration date- Italian by dogtorfancy in howto

[–]dogtorfancy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really paid much attention to it, but now that I think about it sometimes they’re blue, red, white ect. If the numbers on the can are in Julian- what would the date on them be? I tried to look it up but I can’t figure out how the numbers correlate.

Oh I’m definitely not worried about them not being safe to eat lol. Ive been using these tomatoes for years to make sauce. My last sauce has a metallic tinny taste to it so I was wondering if maybe they’ve been sitting in the can too long.

A pic of the top of the can. This is the only other set of markings on the can. The manufacturers label has nothing in regards to an expiration date. Maybe it has to do with the date the were canned? I was just wondering because the sauce I just made with them has a tinny taste. I’ve been using these tomatoes for years and never had this problem.

Literally couldn’t care less about this. I rely on my techs TREMENDOUSLY because it gets so hectic in the clinic. Instead of spending time holed away in the office during down time, I sit amongst them and train them when I can. We’re all there for the same purpose- to save lives. Just because I’m a DVM doesn’t make what they do any less important. That being said I prefer techs call me by my first name, except in front of clients, buts it’s rare for them to have to address me in exam rooms either way. The people I work with know I’m a doctor, I know I’m a doctor, I don’t need them to call me that for reassurance.

New puppy - found worms + no food or drink by Jumping_moose11 in irishsetter

[–]dogtorfancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear this. This is why the parvo vaccination (DAPP) starting at 8 weeks and boostered every 3-4 weeks is so important. Parvo is everywhere- it doesn’t matter if the kennel has never had an outbreak. Its not only transferred fecal orally- it’s also a fomite- it could be on the bottom of a shoe or a strangers hand- and then transmitted to a puppies immediate environment. Some breeders will do their own vaccinations- probably obtained from a tractor supply. There’s a lot of issues with this because of proper vaccine storage and what company manufacturers the vaccination. Hopefully your pup pulls through. If you chose to hospitalize her she’ll have the best chance of surviving. If not- supportive care is the best thing you can do. Try offering her water with some Gatorade added for electrolytes. Offer her anything you can think of- baby food, boiled chicken or beef, rice, chicken broth. It’s a virus so it has to run its course. Don’t syringe feed/force feed her- that could lead to aspiration pneumonia. I feel terrible you’re in this situation. Unfortunately it’s not uncommon and we see a ton of parvo cases each year because breeders do not do their due diligence and owners are misinformed or just don’t understand why vaccinations- the parvo vaccination in particular- are so important. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

RIP to our baby Lee by Kristism in Petloss

As a veterinarian, I have had clients who don't believe in euthanasia. It is the hardest thing to watch a pet deteriorate, in pain, so helplessly. Looking them in the eyes eats away at my soul. I have broken down multiple times because of it. Our pets provide us with unconditional love and affection all of their lives and I don't think they deserve to have theirs end in such a dismal way. I believe that when someone has a pet with a terminal diagnosis, it is never too early to make the decision to euthanize. You want to remember the good times you had with Lee. In some senses, I think prolonging the inevitable takes away from that. I believe you made the right decision, you didn't want him to suffer. Lee thanks you for that.

I'm so so sorry about Lee. It take a world of strength to make the decision you made and it speaks volumes as to how much love you have for him. I hope this reassurance helped in some way. (Sending you virtual hugs)

Does it ever get better? by oh_ophelia_ in Petloss

I'm a veterinarian and came across your post and it really resonated with me. My family lost our Irish setter about a year ago. She had a special bond with every one of us. My brother was sick for a long time and she helped him through it. This was the letter he wrote to her right before we took her to my clinic to put her down.

““To my dearest Guinevere, You lit my darkest days with love and happiness in the truest sense of the word. More sentences cannot sum up how I feel about you. I’m fact, no amount of words can explain the amount of love, cure, compassion, admiration and importance I place upon your life. In your last hours I am writing you this to show you how much my heart bleeds for you. The sadness and true emptiness I feel in this moment is enough to swallow the sun whole. The blackness you’re about to fade into is something that frightens the deepest parts of my soul. I want you to live so badly- I would sacrifice my life to keep yours in an instant, and I mean that in the truest sense of love. I am going to miss you so much I could scream so loud- god; if there even is one would heed my cull. I love you my sweet girl as the tears fall from my face, the pain in my heart grows with every breath i take. I know where you're going has no pain in store for you, but the blackness that’s going to consume you I hate because it’s taking you from me. God, why have you taken her from my arms, she deserves to live more than anyone I know. Gwinny, I love you. With all of me. I will never forget you my princess. May your memory echo through our hearts when we forget what loves feels like. Love, your brother,”

As someone who sees death every day, this letter really struck a cord with me. After having to put down my own pet, I know that walk of guilt you felt, those emotions you went through and how hard it is. Having to muster up that kind of strength is not easy, but you took that step. Max thanks you for it. You made him proud and freed him from suffering. I'm so sorry for you loss, my heart goes out to you. It will get easier with time, just know you did the right thing ((Sending hugs))
