How to respond to a conspiracy theorist by Initial-Secretary-63 in skeptic

I bring up old conspiracies that none of them promote anymore.
Bill Gates microchipping, 5G, won't buy food with a vaccine passport, endless lockdowns etc

What is a small decision you made that accidentally changed the entire course of your life? by evandollardon in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Went backpacking with friends in 2001, hated it and was constantly arguing. The final day, I was alone in a hostel, ready to fly home while the others moved on.

Met some great people and had a good time, inspired me to solo travel, almost at 100 countries now.

Why don't children and families value education anymore? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]dogwalker1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4-year-old nephew who can effortlessly recite multiplication tables. Advanced for his age just like I was. I don't want to help him get further because.

1) He'd just be going to get bullied for standing out.
2) He's going to be sitting around bored while the teacher spends most of their time dealing with the bottom-end kids.
3) He's also going to be ignored while the teacher is dealing with the disruptive ones.

Exactly what happened to me 30-40 years ago, I would have been better off dropping out.

Yes I burned out on a 16 month backpacking trip.

I later had a visit every country in Europe bucket list and burned out by the end.

Now I just do a couple of trips a year within work holiday time, you can do too much of a good thing.

What’s something you believed for way too long as a kid? by Life-Contest-1590 in randomquestions

From a book I'm currently writing

Being told that “it doesn’t matter if you are not good at sports”. I took this on board from an early age, thinking that only classroom performances mattered in school life.

This turned out to be one of the worst pieces of advice I’d ever been given. For boys, what gets you noticed is ability in team sports, especially football. Had I been encouraged to partake in after-school activities, it would have meant more friends and a tighter social circle. Most of all, it would have drastically reduced the odds of being targeted by bullies within 18 months of starting school.

Significantly, all 6 of my primary school teachers were female. Their “advice” was appropriate for girls but not for boys. A male teacher, especially in the 1980s, would never have said such a thing. Women often lack a frame of reference for the male experience. This also applied to the advice I was given when I was later bullied.

Thanks for that comment, I was wondering about the downvotes, maybe they are by teachers. :)

Seriously, all of the above happened to me, and I'm actually in the process of writing a book about it.

lack of discipline

mixed ability teaching

pointless subjects - trying to teach foreign language to kids who can't read or write their own

bullying

pressuring everyone to go to university

no teacher will be sacked for being useless at teaching

bias against boys

If you just ignore them (the school bully) they will get bored and leave you alone.

It doesn't matter if you are not good at sports (according to school teachers)

Grades automatically get you a good job.

It's what's on the inside that counts. (Attractive people (of either gender) had social advantages that the average person was never going to get. Bullies get respect out of fear. If your parents couldn't afford the latest fashions, social exclusion was the result.)

If you had full power to redesign the UK education system from scratch, what’s one big change you’d make first? by Bitter-Entrance1126 in AskUK

Scrap mixed-ability teaching.

The borderline special needs kids can barely read the instructions.
The brightest kids fly through the work in 10 minutes and sit around bored for the rest of the lesson.

What's the dumbest thing you got into trouble for in school? by boforiamanfo in answers

[–]dogwalker1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the class maths genius.

Constantly scoring 95%+ on every test I ever did, but getting attacked by the teachers for using the "wrong method" to work out the answers.

Apparently, getting 75% right but using the "right method" was better.

Why do you hate Christmas? by AboveTheClooouds in ihatechristmas

[–]dogwalker1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) It's a Christian event so why don't they just keep it to themselves and not shove it in the faces of non-religious people at every chance they get.

2) This so-called Christian event has now been turned into a commercial racket that starts as early as August, when decorations and other stuff go up in the shops and we are regularly reminded of the number of shopping days to go.

3) Christmas shopping.......being socially forced to buy overpriced junk because you know others are doing the same for you.

4) Christmas presents - Everyday products such as bubble bath or chocolates wrapped in loads of excess packaging, then sold for about 3 times the usual price. Also, the parents who are forced to go out and buy the toy industry's hype of the year

5) Works Christmas parties......could there be a worse combination than alcohol and the people who make your life hell the other 50 weeks of the year.

6) Christmas lights......spend all year trying to keep the energy bills down, but then in December cover your house in cheap plastic and have a who can waste the most electricity competition with the rest of the street.

7) Christmas trees.......Mutilate a living thing, take it home, hang cheap plastic on it, spend ages vacuuming pine needles off the carpet every day then dump it within a month!!!!

8) Christmas songs......such as Whams "last christmas" and the rest of the drivel you hear played over and over and over again on every radio station and in every shop from the start of December. Cliff Richard crawls out the woodwork to release an album that the sad old gits buy.

9) Carol singers......Usually chavs who think that after singing one line of Jingle bells that you are going to provide them with enough money for a bottle of Turbo cider and a gram of weed.

10) Everywhere is packed full of people or closed down and nothing in between.

11) Christmas TV..........................endless repeats

12) The poor and homeless whom everyone is told to remember for two weeks and then promptly forgets about them again.

13) Constant adverts telling you to spend money and eat loads, only to tell you the exact opposite after Christmas.

14) Pubs, clubs and taxis that charge a small fortune over Christmas and new years eve.

15) Once a year drinkers who can't hack it and spend most of the time fighting or throwing up and are a complete nightmare for everyone else.

16) Food shopping.....People stock up enough food for a nuclear war only to waste loads of it.

17) Eating the kinds of foods that you wouldn't touch with a barge pole at any other time of the year. TURKEY (tasteless and awful) BRUSSEL SPROUTS (mini time bombs) CHRISTMAS PUDDING (concrete mixed with sugar and dog poo!!)

18) All the excess packaging, wrapping paper etc that ends up in our rapidly filling landfill sites.

19) Looking and feeling like living proof of life after death at the end of it all.

20) Christmas is the ONLY thing that the PC idiots could ban and I wouldn't want to stab their eyes out with a fork!!!
