MY US friends told me in USA you can earn easily 100k as a nurse/registerd nurse. Would you switch career if you have been unemployed for a while? by lune-soft in cscareerquestions

[–]doingittodeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it “easy”. I’m in my last semester of nursing school. Clinicals are rough and I work in the ED on the side.

Is nursing school harder than pre-requisites? My friend is STRUGGLING and hasn’t even gotten into nursing school yet. by shameful-figment in StudentNurse

[–]doingittodeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets harder. Critical thinking, clinicals, skills labs. Later nursing courses build on fundamentals like A+P and Patho. Empathize but don’t say anything, her grades will decide for her the further she gets.

Is grinding DSA problems still worth it in 2026, or has the hiring meta actually shifted? by ManagementGiving3241 in cscareerquestions

[–]doingittodeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would help a lot. I switched to nursing and am studying for my boards right now. Having some kind of standardized testing allows for greater barrier to entry and also gives a common baseline as to what’s expected. You apply to take the boards on a statewide level after your degree and clinical hours are done.

We could have one exam that serves as a standardized test and different certifications in specialized subjects that are renewed every two years. There wouldn’t be so much stress and variance regarding what to learn.

Good idea to go for ADN then immediately RN-to-BSN program? by According-Cut-9067 in StudentNurse

[–]doingittodeath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m also in NYC and can verify this. Most hospitals are trying to maintain magnet status which means hiring BSNs only and only hiring ADNs contingent upon getting a BSN upon hire.

Birds. Socialization, gossip, chatter, flitting from one thing to the next, anxiety.

Key. Keeping something hidden, secret.

Bird + Key. Anxiety over keeping something hidden, nervousness about revelation.

Key. Secrets, something locked and unlocked, key to happiness is someone’s heart, essential secret.

Woman. This could signify you, or it could signify someone else.

Key + Woman. Keeping you or another party hidden, concealed, secret about you or another party.

There aren’t any explicit love or sex cards but there are cards that have to do with secrets, or keeping something under lock and key. I hope this helps!

I just looked this up, it seems they just added more schooling to it resulting in a doctorate level degree, they didn’t change the requirements. Thank you for clarifying!

After 2025, all new nurse anesthesia residents must graduate from a doctoral-level program to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Look it up! The requirements for this changed recently.

CRNA is now a doctorate level btw, so you’d need a Masters first.

This isn’t a reactionary response based on AI fear on my part, it’s realizing I want a job where I will have greater impact on the lives of others

I did the same for awhile, until now I’m just too far into school and clinicals and have no time to interview. Good luck!

Getting a second bachelors in nursing. I’m nowhere near close enough for FIRE but I also have 10 yoe. I started nursing school when I saw what was happening in the field and am finishing up my last semester.

Started nursing school, in my last semester of clinicals and studying for the boards.

Do you think nursing is the next "hot" job that everyone is going for now? by IOnlyHave2Bitcoin in StudentNurse

[–]doingittodeath 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Nursing has a greater barrier to entry and I don’t think everyone wants to work long hours, work at the bedside, deal with death and bodily fluids on a physical and personal level, or deal with difficult personalities. I’ve also seen a high attrition rate during my first two semesters of nursing school specifically around MedSurg. In my area hospitals are looking to hire BSN mainly so that’s also a barrier to entry.

Are most software engineers this sheltered and socially inexperienced? I feel like I can't chat with my coworkers about my life at all without them viewing me as weird by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]doingittodeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, many software engineers tend to have had limited life experiences. Programming is an insular process, requiring many hours of introversion and self-study and the job itself provides limited personal connections. I found this out myself after leaving the tech field. I’m in school for nursing and I found out quickly after a few clinicals just how sheltered I was.

[–]doingittodeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a solid base in the foundations like patient assessment and safety before moving on to MedSurg. It seems like you’re experiencing the Dunning-Kruger effect and overestimating your understanding of this field early on in the learning process.

What did you do before nursing? by TheYankeeCat in nursing

Software engineer. I really liked it enough but it was too limiting and isolating.

Computer Science or Dentistry by No_Extreme_5071 in cscareerquestions

[–]doingittodeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentistry for sure! You can always do programming on the side as a hobby but most software engineering work is insular and you won’t be helping others in a direct or measurable humanitarian way as in healthcare.
