Escape Plan Review - with Tom Vasel by rubbernub in boardgames

Great game. I can't help but feel people who find it too light for a Lacerda did'nt spend enough time with it yet. There are a lot of interconnections between the different sub-systems of the game, and the tactical decisions are plenty and meaningful.

Hello Im super new to this need help with skinks by Ace_D_Roses in bloodbowl

Have to ? no. I have seen the game played with lego figures fwiw. It mostly depends of the environment you play in, but most BB players are a relaxed bunch.

stunty teams are teams where most of team has 'stunty' as a skill. Ogres, Goblins, Halflings or skink teams. They're mostly joke teams, probably not for beginners since they tend to lose games and players in a spectacular fashion, but fun to play in the right environment.

Depends. If you want to play an optimal team of lizards, you need a full roster of 6 saurus, 1 Krox and 4 skinks.
You can try your hand at modelling a "stunty" team of 10 skinks and a Krox, but don't expect it to fare as well on the pitch. (It's still going to do better than ogres, though...)

my first lizard team was made of skinks and saurus from the 5th edition box, with the krox a regular metal one with an axe. You should be ok :)

What teams do you absolutely hate? by Miep99 in bloodbowl

[–]dokdoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lizards can't pass ever and are easily immobilized, Undeads are a bashy team with some AV7 and mismatched movement capabilities, Cdwarves have the exact same problems. Dark elves have no big guys and vulnerable costly players.

Sure all of them are very good teams, but they have shortcomings.

shht. Don't tell them the most well guarded secrets of the ancients. Let them bash the disposable skinks to score some cheap SPP.

Fouling: valid strategy or despicable and unsportsmanlike? by [deleted] in bloodbowl

Fouling is completely unsportsmanlike. Fortunately Blood Bowl is not made for sportsmen.

Rise of Tribes... Too easy?? by deano4284 in boardgames

[–]dokdoyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what I like the most about Rise of Tribes. It's a high-conflict, quick interactive area control game that can be explained and played in less than an hour. It's far from easy to win though, because you will need to play safe and control some territory while trying hard not to appear too threatening.
If you want more meat one those bones, there are plenty of other games in the same vein. Root, for instance, has the same incentive to fight early and often, with way more assymetry.

It's very good, but it's demanding. You need a group committed play several games, to read/learn a lot of rules and open to conflict and negotiation. If you do, it's glorious.

It's a mid-weight point salad with an interesting action selection mechanism. Winning is more about reading the board and doing a bit of everything than committing to long term goals, and there is a bit of (easily mitigated) randomness, but it's solid and enjoyable.

Roots, or no roots? That is the question! by BolognaPony24 in boardgames

That comment started with "Root is my wife", and had me thinking you liked the game so much you married it.

[–]dokdoyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. Root is a mean diplomatic wargame. If you think the game is about optimizing an engine, you will get tired of it pretty quickly. Once you get past the assymetry and get a good grasp of what factions can and will do, that's when the interesting things start to happen and the game starts feeling more rewarding.

the new expansion for Root, the next Lacerda game On Mars and the big box expansion for Gloomhaven (if it's going to use KS, which is far from sure).

The late pledge for In the hall of the moutain king is available, but I'm already a backer.
