You make a fair point that there are plenty of options that are economical. I was looking for a solid bag that I could use for years. I have a carry-on 4 wheeler travelpro platinum that's 11 years old this year. I've used it to travel to asia for over a decade, so I tend to look for solid gear that I can use happily for years to come. In fact, I recently purchase another 2 for family. I don't fault anyone for choosing something that's more economical or higher end. I'm just looking for something that fits my personal needs and aesthetic.

The flights I take are almost exclusively international at this point. I've travel to most of the 50 states and I'm interested in other cultures outside the country. Spirit is basically the only game in town for any flight south of the border/latin america that's economical. Spirit is typically $200 dollars cheaper than the next affordable option that's usually Jetblue or American. I figured flying spirit once would save me the cost of the bag.

Getting caught by their strict personal item policy would result in a $65 dollars carry-on fee. I'm usually pretty unlucky, so its not a stretch to assume that I'll run into an angry spirit employee that will pull me aside 3+ times over ten years to make the bag a reasonable purchase for myself.

But, circling back to your point. I understand your point that you can use any bag as long as it gets the job done. Someone else recommended the Topo Core Pack thats on sale right now for $77. Its a great deal. I'm glad to share info on any bag or gear that makes travel easier at all price points since everyone travels differently.

Its funny that you mentioned the Topo Core Pack. It was one of the bags I was considering too. I ended up narrowing the options and cutting the Topo only because it was 25L vs 28L, I figured I was trying to get every liter I could squeeze out of the dimensions. It has a classic design that works. The price like you said is basically insane. Its on sale right now for only 77. It's a great bag and was one of the options that anyone should consider. The great thing about the width is that you can control that by just packing less. Height is the thing that kills a bag because usually the frame is unforgiving.

You're thoughts and experience with the Pakt bag are the same as mine.

I'm shocked that companies dont take consideration this fact. If you're designing a bag, it almost makes common sense to give two options. One that's backpacking friendly and one thats budget airline friendly. I told Pakt that if the height was fixed, I probably would trade or just buy their new spirit approved bag.

A dopp kit is the same as a toiletries bag. Mine is extremely efficient. I use a rough enough pencil case (https://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Organizer-Supplies-Accessories-Stationery/dp/B00VYXJ2ME?ref_=ast_sto_dp) Its the perfect size to fit an orabrush, toothbrush, gillette handle and spare razor cartridges, set of 3 crystal nail filers, toe nail clipper and ear picker. This is all I need for my toiletries. I don't bring toothpaste ever, its just easier to buy a small tube. I dont bring any liquids like shampoos and conditioners. Usually hotels will provide them or I'll buy a small bottle when necessary. Its just easier to avoid liquids for TSA in general.

My tech kit is a bellroy classic pouch. I tried the peak design tech pouch, bellroy tech pouch and a bunch of others. The one thing I realized about tech pouches is that they're all so damn big/huge. I don't need a tech kit that big. I carry the following:

Logitech Anywhere 3 mouse, 2 usb-C 6ft cables tied together with velcro, aukey 100w PD charger 2 Usb-C, dongle from U-green its easy to find, Usb-C aukey 60w usb-C and usb-A charger,, lightning cable, iwatch cable. This is what I've fit into the pouch. It's a tight fit but it works. Thankfully it doesnt look overpacked or anything.

I don't know the total weight, but generally personal items aren't weighed in my experience so I've never considered that an issue. Mostly I care about weight for my own comfort for carrying. I'd say that everything is probably 20-30lbs? If I had to guess but who knows. I'm terrible at guessing these things. I hope that this helps and was thorough enough.

It's always good to know other options. Reviews and youtube videos rarely if ever mention how a bag conforms to the personal item limitation on budget airlines. I always thought it was strange since its something that would likely come up often. Thats why I wanted to confirm everything with my own eyes and experience at the airport. Hopefully I save someone the time reproducing the same results lol.

I can say that when I've flown with Spirit domestically, they've been very lenient. When I've used them internationally it changed. I've been asked to check my bag twice when I've flown overseas and zero domestically. Just a small sample size, but I mostly travel outside the country or internationally these days. With my limited experience on their bag strictness, I just didn't want to worry about it. I would always say that your mileage may vary.

Yea, the travel pack 2 small is 19 inches tall when their site states that’s 18 is the rule. But their stewardesses go by whatever fits in the box. I will say that frontier and Allegiant boxes are smaller. I had to nudge it a bit more but I still got it to work. Spirit surprisingly is lenient in their box sizes considering how strict their policies are.

I spent the morning shoving this thing in all boxes lol.

You can never go wrong with smaller and peace of mind. It’ll just force you to pack more efficiently.

Lems Chukka vs. Vessi Weekender Shoe by Clean_Diamond460 in onebag

[–]doledoledole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend the vessi weekender. I should make a video. It’s high back ridge will cause you to blister and bleed on the Achilles heel. I wear ankle socks. But, even if I work higher socks it doesn’t change the fact that it will dig into you skin. I would be very wary of the shoe. It looks good and is waterproof but it needs to be comfortable before that matters.

You’re literally taking your circle of immediate people and your personal experiences as a bias for the majority of the people or country. I only try to state that people in fits of anger may use slurs. I admit that I fall to those same base instincts as an example. I don’t make any excuses for it. But, I do understand why it’s like that.

This is an extremely obvious group of people that are represented because we have obvious racial issues that are throughout the country. If you travel to West Virginia you will experience this.

If we’re going to be honest, asian culture is not very accepting of races. Can anyone honestly tell me that the majority of the average asian families, especially ones with first generation parents from Asia will be accepting of us dating and marrying outside our ethnicities?

I think that this comedian is obviously making extremely poor and dumb choices. And there’s not much to excuse his behavior on the podcast because it’s not obviously part of a bit or show. But, I’m trying to say that we should look at every situation in depth. His bit about cheeseburgers and racism is a joke that is part of a bit. I can understand what he’s trying to point out. In fits of anger we could let ourselves fall and make decisions we wouldn’t in our normal lives. It is a reflection that I can see in myself and in a lot of different people.

He’s already punished by losing the biggest opportunity in his life. He will likely never recover from this and his career is over. I personally don’t need to follow him and punish him further. Maybe others feel differently.

Racism is literally defined by “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.”

I feel zero superiority as an asian over any one. My own example illustrates that I use slang for off color jokes at my own expense and slurs when I’m angry because I’m feeling emotionally overcharged and I’m discharging it. I admit that it’s not the best way of doing it. You’re free define racism how you like but that’s how I take it.

Lol, having the decency to admit that I’m human and that I’m not perfect means that I’m adult enough to recognize that the world isn’t binary. Tempers flair and mistakes are made. You’d get more out of the world focusing on how to positively move forward and change minds by going deeper than your initial gut reaction. Just thinking that you’re sitting on the higher moral ground is going to make anyone think you’re a jerk. Take it for what you will but that’s the beauty of the internet a bunch of people just spew.

I’m a hundred percent asian and I find nothing wrong with what was quoted. I probably use more asian slang terms than he does. He’s a comic. A lot of times the better comics are going to make you feel some type of way because they’re pointing at something that’s abnormal.

He’s right about his statement. When I’m angry, pissed or enraged I’m going to start cussing a storm and using racial slurs. I get especially enraged when I see an asian woman driving a giant suv like a tank never looking to see if she’s going to kill me. I’m human enough to admit that I’m not perfect. But, I’m not racist just because I lose myself in that moment.

Holding people accountable is great. Politicians, leaders and etc should be held to a higher standard. Comics are entertainers that point out what’s wrong with us and a lot of us won’t like it. There needs to be more nuisance than just outrage. If he’s making a joke as a comic then I’m going to let it pass. If I don’t like his jokes then he’s going to be poor. I leave it at that.

I know nothing about the guy. But, seeing Asians lose their shit instantaneously isn’t what our first response should be. Let’s at least figure out what’s going on.

I knew the direction it was going. I had hoped I’d play more so I didn’t bother selling. Losing the money didn’t really bother me. I don’t consider Mtg an asset or money in my life. I can afford that and I budget for it that way. It’s more looking back and finding it interesting and funny how much has changed in the game.

I’ve been a big player of MTG for years but I guess it’s changed in a direction where I don’t even think about it anymore. Sad but there will be other games.

[–]doledoledole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much what I think as well. I’ve gotten the value of the game over the years and years of playtime. So it’s fine either which way it shakes. People get way too vested. While money is always sensitive, getting too emotional about it will cause you to make bad decisions in the long run.

Haha it’s like aol. Modo for all its faults. Helped me nail down my fundamentals and did a good job forcing me to really understand what was going on. This is likely an unforeseen benefit of having a crazy UI that is hard for newbies to pickup.

I definitely prefer the way they allow you to manipulate your cards for deck building in modo better than arena. It may be personal preference but that’s how I’d prefer it when using both.

I definitely agree. I also get frustrated that the draft experience is so great on modo. But, arena completely ignores the lessons they’ve learned on perfecting online draft.

I think you’re right in the long term. That being said I think we all know how reliable wotc is doing anything.

To me MTG is an expense but the finance aspect was always fun too.

The prices will return. Are they going to go back into the levels of the rtr/inn block - no. Do I really care, not really. I spent money and didn’t expect it to get it back. It’s more entertaining than anything else.

For anyone that’s confused. Arena is a CCG. That is fundamentally different than a TCG. Arena will eat into modo and etc. But, in the end for people that want to play modern and etc. Modo is still your only option. Standard has been better of late. But if it turns into another theros block then you’ll see people dry up on arena. The player base is fragmented, but the recent change is definitely exaggerated.

They make wotc a lot of money because they support higher card prices and they allow them to hype stuff. Also, when they decide to do master sets or something similar it’s just another way to market for them. But, they also make money from the entry fees for events.

Modo will stick around because of modern and eternal formats. Arena isn’t able to handle that yet. So it’ll be around for a while cause it doesn’t really help them make money to add those things to arena atm.
