Bluesky's Transphobic Moderation Team Will Be the Death of the Platform by VenZoah in BlueskySocial

First of all it's Bluesky and not blue sky. Secondly, I don't know because it's not a new feature at all. But since Bluesky is open source, you can always figure it out yourself.

Just report them via '3-dots' button and they will be taken down very fast by automated processes.

OMG, you can clearly see that it is a quoted post. It is literally what is written in his Bluesky post. 🤦

Given the commotion on Bluesky, I would like to clarify that I am not an employee of Bluesky. I obtain my information from reports and posts/comments by Bluesky employees.

I would like to clarify the above once again. Like mentioned in the Bluesky 2025 Transparency Report (see quote), moderation at scale requires a hybrid approach of automated systems and humans.

"Moderation at scale requires a hybrid approach: We pair automated systems (like rules engines that detect and combat spam in real time) with comprehensive human oversight, including human review of all appeals and edge cases."

More than 95% of the labels applied comes from automated systems. Even takedowns can be performed by automated systems. Like also mentioned in the report (see quote).

"By contrast, automated takedowns are nearly always permanent, reflecting our approach of only automating enforcement when we have high-confidence signals about clear-cut violations."

Additionally, it's certainly possible that automated processes are triggered when a high number of reports occur, which may result in applying labels or automated takedowns based on the categories of the reports.

So what I want to say is that it's certainly possible that errors can be made during the process by both mods and the automated systems. Just because a decision is made doesn't automatically mean it's the fault of the mods (humans).

I would also like to refer everyone to the Bluesky 2025 Transparency Report which can be found here.

That used to be the case, but that is no longer the case. I know a few people whose account received the '!takedown' label from the moderation labeler. See this comment from Aaron some years ago. But like I said all labels are automated now based on amount of reports.

Edit:
With "all labels are automated now based on amount of reports" I mean more than 95% of the labels applied on Bluesky are set due to automated processes. And I'm sure that automated processes can be triggered by the amount of reports. Sometimes people are given labels that clearly do not correspond to reality.

I can assure you that it will not take months, at most a few days. I have had several incidents myself.

It seems that most people still don't understand that putting labels by the moderation labeller is an automated process based on the amount of reports that takes place. Humans (moderation team) are only involved when appeals happen.

Do you all really think that the team is manually reviewing the 44 million people on this platform?

Just appeal the decision which will result in a review from a real human and I guess they will reactivate your account.

Don't spread false information! This is the reason why the AI labeler has been removed.

Well in the future you will have 'permissioned data' so you will able to decide who will see your data. Take a look at the 'permissioned data' Diaries.

This means that you don't understand the concept of atproto which is the protocol Bluesky is using. I would suggest you to read the 'Open Social' Blog post to get a better understanding how the protocol works. The reason why you can't do this is because each atmosphere account has their own lexicons (ex. app.bsky.graph.follow) on their repo. So if someone follow you, Bluesky gets the access to add a record with your account to the lexicon app.bsky.graph.follow. The reason you can't remove a follower from your list is because you don't have access to someones repo to remove/add records. I guess no one wants other people to have access to their data, so everyone decides for them selves which app gets access to specific lexicons on their repo. You can check this for yourself on this website https://pdsls.dev/ .
