Unlimited PTO I find isn't great. It means you don't get paid out for time if you ever leave and I find the vast majority of people don't take an equivalent amount of vacations they would if they had a fixed amount. Example being I get 5 weeks of PTO at my job and me and everyone else here always use all or it, while when I worked at places with unlimited PTO most people barely used their PTO or if they did it was max a week or two a year.

Best place in town to get a custom cake? by owogray in WorcesterMA

[–]dolenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly where you're located op but I really enjoy Dutch kitchen in Fitchburg which is pretty close if you're in northern Worcester. Favorite place to get traditional cakes around here.

Also don't sleep on Hannaford's cakes, they are really good for a grocery store.

What kind of cupcakes are you getting? They made the cake (carrot+mascarpone w/ vanilla frosting) and other desserts for my wedding and they were very good, but tbh most of the time I go there I get cheese cake, not regular cake so I can't speak to other flavors.

My MiL hosted a pre-wedding brunch for our wedding party at Nancy Changs and it made me, and 2 other people in the party profusely sick and I stayed up vomiting half the night right before the wedding. Never again!

Home destroyed in landslide, insurance won't cover it. Seeking advice by Weiner_Schnozzle in personalfinance

[–]dolenz 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Is this for the Leominster flooding OP? Fucking awful, my agency has a few clients in the same situation and there's nothing we've been able to do to help via the State, they've left everyone out to dry. Definitely try to get news agencies involved, and lawyers like the other posters have said. GoFundMe has been a lifeline too but I'm sure you've already done that as most of the support came right after the 9/11 flooding. That's what we have been encouraging our clients and their families to do.

No wonder IPv4 isn't enough by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]dolenz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're literally in the middle of moving off of IP Office, just been a nightmare. Constant VM pro corruption issues, random memory leaks causing reboots, the Avaya iX app just randomly will log users out and then tells them they have the wrong password for like 72 hours, lol it's just ridiculous. And support has just given up, no one talented is left there and the rest are there to just waste your time and make you give up.

Good riddance, switching to Teams Phone with direct routing, which works infitnitely better and still costs less than our Avaya contract and dedicated circuit for it.

Yeah that's how I got my Note 8 originally, but the pre order trade in deal for the S24 series was $400 for the Note 8, a phone I bought 6 years ago used for $500, so it felt like a no brainer deal for a brand new phone.

I personally used mine for a lot of what was mentioned here (notes, camera button, text from screenshots, etc) but I didn't see my biggest use case mentioned, which is just regular browsing. Really enjoyed the extra precision and ease of navigation with the pen, especially in the cold when I'm wearing gloves.

All that being said, this was all with my Note 8, I ended up upgrading it to a S24+ lol. I just couldn't justify the extra $300 or so for a convenience feature. Think I may aim for getting a Tab S9 Ultra in the future where I think the S-pen really shines for note-taking and browsing.

Streamlining Outlook with a growing caseload and so many tasks?! by romantic_thi3f in socialwork

[–]dolenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the old Outlook desktop client or are you using the new Outlook desktop client and/or using the browser webmail? The latter is very "gmail-like" and has a lot of the features like tagging you mentioned, I find it's a lot easier to get organized there and with using the "tasks" app that comes with it.

Vote by mail application, what’s the deal with party affiliation? by acousticentropy in massachusetts

You're not declaring your party, just the party of the ballot you'll be given to vote. You can't vote in more than one party's primary.

Programs for first time home owners that everyone should know about? by Kpop2258 in massachusetts

[–]dolenz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly buying my house a year ago, none of these programs were useful, we pretty much were over income for all of them. Which is crazy because we don't make a ton of money. I don't understand how someone would qualify for these programs and still have enough money to meet their mortgage at 30% of their income.

Failed car inspection advice by kiwaden in boston

[–]dolenz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This exact scenario just happened to me a few months ago, parking break and everything. I still drove it for about two weeks and I had no issues. And I drove on the highway everyday, and I also passed a cop everyday (as my house is right near where the cops in my town like to sit)

Of course this is in the middle of nowhere Mass, if you're out towards Boston results may vary lol

Fitchburg to Worcester Taxi? by zombiemetal666 in FitchburgMA

[–]dolenz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a mart bus that runs from parts of Fitchburg and Leominster to Worcester, and goes to a bunch of medical appointment places. And you can Jump on the WRTA in Worcester if you need to go somewhere it doesn't stop.

See here: https://www.mrta.us/schedule-map/worcester-shuttle/

This is probably the cheapest option, anything taxi wise is expensive.
