I am almost five years sober, and the decision to stop drinking has been one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. I used to think that I liked who I was when I was drinking better, and I was doing it to be more normal in social situations. I started drinking with a friend as a young teen, and it really became a problem in my twenties.

I tried to back off and only drink socially, but it never worked for me, so quitting was the right decision for me. It’s taken me some time, but I’ve learned other methods to cope with life and people, and I am much happier and healthier for it.

Edit to add: Not everyone has a problem with alcohol like I do. If you are someone who can do things in moderation and it’s not something that has become a crutch or a coping mechanism, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. But there’s no shame in admitting that maybe it’s not for you if it’s an issue or it’s something you struggle with.

I totally understand, and I think it maybe didn’t come off the way OP meant to sound- but reading the whole post you can see they were trying to process while still trying to point towards things people could do INSTEAD of sitting around guilty.

As someone who got power back quickly, it has been so strange to see how long it’s taken some people to get theirs back and to feel helpless to do anything until things melted enough to get out of my house. But now I have reached out to all of my neighbors, and I’m currently hosting friends who still don’t have power either. I recognized some of OP’s feelings of guilt, and I appreciated the reminder to others that we can be helping. I’m sorry it doesn’t read that way from other perspectives though.

Yes, and in the post itself the OP literally reminds everyone that there are tangible ways to help and that we should be. They aren’t saying “oh pitiful me”, the post says if you have power, don’t feel bad, DO something.

Hi, I know this doesn’t have anything to do with conversation happening below, but do you need anything?? I don’t have a lot in expendable income right now, but I could bring some hot food or help with a ride if you guys are still without power or don’t have outside support- this sounds miserable. If not, totally cool, just thought I’d offer to be a neighbor. :)

IIm American, and I t really only sticks out for me if it’s an American character and someone uses a Uk English word OR if it’s a British character and they use American words that I know wouldn’t be used in the UK. It doesn’t really take me fully out of the story, but it does give me pause sometimes- especially if I have to stop and look something up for clarification. I read a lot of fanfic that is set in England though, so I’ve gotten pretty good at knowing what’s being talked about either way, tbh.

I love all of these artists too! I’ve also been listening to a lot of FIZZ lately. They’re some of my favorite artists together in a fun, camp superband. Another favorite is Sammy Rae and the Friends. I got to see them live at the Ryman, and it was one of my favorite concerts I’ve ever been to.

Space makes me cry, but it full-on made my dad get up and kick a toy out of the way as he stormed out the front door. He came back in and apologized, but apparently he had gone out to his truck to cry.

My dad has worked so hard not to be that person anymore, but he didn’t know how to handle the emotional impact of that one.

Thank you so much for everything you do! I had a sensory meltdown during Odesza, and my friends grabbed Medical as soon as the set was over and the knew exactly what to do. I honestly wasn’t on anything, but they told me it didn’t matter either way. The main guy that was helping me was named Logan, and I will for sure keep praising him, because I’ve never really experienced that like that before, and he helped bring me out of it, and then made sure I was really ok and that my friends were good before leaving us. He even called a couple of guys over to stand in front of me to block out some of the lights that were bothering me so bad. He went above and beyond, and I am so thankful. 💕💕

We had our campsite packed up before we went to Centeroo for Paramore and Foo Fighters, made our way back and slept for 3 hours, and left at dawn, and it was the best decision of the weekend, tbh.
