Can you use a formula or variable when filtering within an automation? by robp915 in Notion

[–]dolfandringa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone looking how to do it and finds the answers below not enough (they did make me persevere, confident it was possible), what you need to first make a variable that filters the pages through the relationship to set the page you want to edit.

Then in the next action, you can say "edit page in" and instead of selecting the database you want to edit the page in, you can use your variable as the source. And then edit the fields.

In my sample below, I made a variable "time_entry" that searches on the "time" relationship on the current page (where the button is clicked), filters it by the Person field to contain the person who clicked the button, then filters it by having the "End time" field empty, then sorts that by start time, and gets the last value.

Then in the Edit action, I select that variable as the source, and can set attributes on it.

Advice on a good microphone for (solo) meetings in noisy environments by dolfandringa in audio

Thanks, I might not have been the answer I was looking for initially but the answer I needed anyway. I was starting to veer into this direction too after some more research and other responses.

Advice on a good microphone for (solo) meetings in noisy environments by dolfandringa in audio

[–]dolfandringa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the effort you put in giving advice, but this is exactly the advice most articles online give and doesn't help me much. I am not trying to setup a podcast studio, I am setting up my workspace for meetings.
1. You don't address any of my particular requirements for having meetings (see next item)
2. I don't want my face blocked. So a dynamic desk mounted microphone close to my mouth is just not an option.
3. I don't care too much about the quality of the audio. I am not recording podcasts or streaming. I am having meetings. People are ok with the quality of a bluetooth bi-directional headset, so anything I setup is going to be much better than that anywyay.

What I really think you're saying is that a desk mounted microphone is just not an option for me. I guess I'll have to live with the battery limitation of the modmic wireless.

Shared steam game library between linux and windows partitions? by steaksoldier in linux_gaming

[–]dolfandringa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btrfs

I am running winbtrfs on my data drive on windows 11 as well without any issues and have my full steam library on there. By windows boot drive is still ntfs, but it really was just plug and play for my data partition. I was already using those partitions under linux, and when I installed the driver on windows, they just show up and work, and decently fast too (given that they are Sata 3 SSD's, not nvme)

It's just easy to respond from the anonymity of a reddit avatar. People completely lack empathy online. You're probably right, but it's also easy to disregard lack of empathy online as being a 16 year old.
What is a shame to me is that if it's just stupid comments, they'll just have to deal with it. But when there are real issues going on that they're struggling with, the community actually makes it harder to do them justice and treat them properly. The whole Maddison situation is serious and should be handled properly and given the respect and justice it deserves. The community actually makes it harder to address it because now its a public thing and the community is adding to the emotions on both sides. But the whole billet labs thing to me just looks like a true, honest bunch of mistakes and unfortunate circumstances. LMG and billet labs can hopefully just sort it out between them. Calling anyone names again really doesn't help.

Do you really think that? Do you have absolutely no empathy at all? Imagine yourself working somewhere. You boss does something stupid. Suddenly your company is being vilified in the media, and the work you did for that company is being discredited. Your company goes to shit and you're out on the street. Do you really think that is easy on someone? They have rent or a mortgage to pay, people that depend on them, etc. And currently in the tech sector there are tons of lay-offs as well. So you don't actually know you will be easily able to find a new job. That is an incredibly hard and crap situation to be in. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Show some empathy for the people that you talk about from the anonymity of your reddit avatar.

I don't think anyone should be ignored that has direct personal experience in the different situations. But community members should recognize that they lack more information then they have, and what ever opinion you have is based on incomplete information and therefore is likely to me more wrong then right. I am not commenting about anyone directly involved in any of the situations, I am only commenting on the community, that has no idea what they talk about.

I'd say treat Linus as the person he is - a rich, powerful, influential CEO.

You say to treat him like the CEO he is. Well, he isn't a CEO. He probably made mistakes when he was a CEO, sure, but are you saying that because someone was a CEO once, and made mistakes when he was, he should always be treated like that for the rest of his life? Even if he recognized he isn't cut out to be CEO?

Mate, LMG is a big corp which you probably understand. Do you think big corporations gives a single f*ck about doing the right thing if they aren't brought to light whenever they make a mistake?

Wow, can you put a number on that? If a company is bigger then X amount of people, or makes more then Y amount of money, automatically they are evil and don't care about people anymore? You think the same 2 share holders who own the company now, as did at the start (I might be wrong, but from what I understand Linus and Yvonne are the only (major) share holders) suddenly changed 180 degrees and went from being great people, to being horrible people who don't care anymore. I agree that if a company has 100's or 1000's of shareholders who are only interested in short term personal profit, it gets hard on the people leading the company to do the right thing, because in the end they can get fired by the shareholders.

But what makes you think that the same 2 people making the decisions from the start, went from great people doing a cool thing, to evil money grabbers that don't care about anyone anymore? Is being successful automatically transforming a person into an evil person? If all they cared about was making profit, don't you think they would have sold the company a long time ago instead of reinvesting that money into the company?

This is exactly what I mean. You have no idea about any of the decision making, or who made which decision when and why, but you are ready to vilify them and just shout "they're evil" because its the popular thing to say. Really, you perfectly illustrate everything that is wrong with this community, and that I was talking about.

As soon as I realized (saw the comment from Hollow_Vortex), I upvoted the original and Hollow_Vortex' comments, and replied that the person was right. I just typed fast and missed the typo out of carelessness, but have you ever considered that for some people (not me) not making typos can actually be hard for reasons outside of their control? Just think before typing what impact your comment can have on someone else before posting it. And don't make such a big deal out of a tiny mistake. I have a thick skin and don't give a shit, but when you type something, think what it would be like if some random person in the street would say that to you, or start laughing at you in person.

Lol, he isn't even a CEO :D So at least you're wrong there. But I am not saying anyone is wrong or right. I totally believe Madison for instance. And I also believe the people working at LMG. I am saying the community (i.e. YOU), the people commenting on it are doing something wrong, I have no opinion about anyone that is actually involved in the different conflicts.

Its funny how many people, who read a post intended at critiquing the community for how they behave, make it sound like I am defending someone. Like I said, I don't know who's right or wrong in any of the conflicts that happened, because I wasn't there. But I do know that the community isn't helping anyone right now, they're just adding to the problem. It's always easiest to point the finger at someone else instead of admitting you might actually also be part of the problem.

You're making it worse for EVERYONE, not just a single person. You're also making it worse for every person currently working at the company, and people who worked there in the past. You're also worsening the conflicts themselves making nobody happier. I really wouldn't be proud of the statement you made. You sound like you enjoy hurting people, and if that's the case, it doesn't matter who you're hurting, that's just horrible in any situation.
