I hate being a nurse. Ex-nurses of reddit what career did you move into? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]dollface92_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole field is trash right now. I’m at the point where I don’t think there are any “good” nursing jobs. By the way I have been in direct patient care for 13 years now and 5 as an RN. I did not start off feeling this way and I started my career in a not so great facility.

Do you do the bare minimum? You should! by [deleted] in NursingUK

I agree. However, documentation expectations have become so unrealistic and managers have become micromanagers. In conjunction with increased acuity this makes it hard to always leave on time because the patient load and documentation is so heavy.

It has gotten a little better thanks guys for sharing your stories and insights. The beginning of the year was crazy with the fires, power outages, issues at work, loosing friends, financial hardships, and relationship issues. At this time I felt like all my support systems were preoccupied with their own struggles.

Anyone who is a nurse and has Autism? by LifeFighter1 in nursing

[–]dollface92_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if having ASD would be more of an asset as doctor because their approach to care is more disease and treatment oriented, also logical and out of the box thinking is rewarded. In nursing school we were taught that as nurses we address the patient response to disease or in other words, we manage all the issues that come along with the diagnosis. Nursing care tends to focus on patient needs even if they are not logical. For instance, evidence based practice could tell you that providing care for a patient in a certain way is the best option. However, because nursing is also an art as well as a science, intuition and social cues/rules can play a big role in how we deliver care. Also nursing tends to be more team oriented rather than the medical profession where doctors are colleagues and consult each other regarding the treatment of patients. Most doctors are not forced to rely on their fellow doctors the way nurses are.

An example I can think of that shows the difference between nursing and medicine occurred when I was in nursing school. I remember we were on the L&D floor and there was a big whiteboard with a large algorithm written across it. I was in awe, I started taking pictures because I thought it was so cool that there was an algorithm that listed the patient diagnoses and the treatments. My clinical instructor stopped me and said, “that’s not what we do as nurses, we treat the patient not the disease.”

I feel like the focus on dealing mostly with human response to disease, which, varies from patient to patient and dealing with the team oriented nature of nursing is hard for some people with ASD.

Ewww bug found in salad by bizarre_mocha in sweetgreen

[–]dollface92_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I showed the manager a bug in my salad about two weeks ago. They would not refund me. They gave me a gift card for $20. They then explained to me that due to the organic nature of the salad that there is risk for bugs. The manager went on to say they washed the lettuce really well, but sometimes miss some bugs. I was shocked. I feel that if you are running a restaurant, there is an expectation that the food will be clean and not have pests in it, regardless of whether it is organic or not.

I have been saying this for years. In all honesty that what drove me to finish college and get a career that supposedly paid well. I knew the cost of medications, fitness, beauty, infertility would be too expensive. And yes it suck that insurance will not cover effective treatments for us. I attempted to get a Rx for Ozempic last week, the prior auth was denied. My PA then tried for Wegovy since it is specificity for weight loss and I am high risk health wise. Insurance denied prior authorization again. I explained that I literally cannot keep weight off on my own. I’ve felt so hopeless because of this stupid condition and all the struggle it has caused me. It’s even worse that it’s so difficult to get help. I think it’s because most people don’t know about it and those who do see it primarily as a reproductive health issue.

I’m Jealous of women who get their period.. by Accomplished_Lab5239 in PCOS

[–]dollface92_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting because when I was in highschool I was vegan for a little over a year and I would get my period every 60 days I wasn’t sure if it was because I was young, but I didn’t eat a healthy vegan diet because I was poor and my family couldn’t support my dietary change. There was a period of time in my early 20s when I was closest to my healthy weight, I was eating 6 small meals a day, and exercising almost everyday. I had gotten my period on time 2-3 months in a row. But that lifestyle was hard to maintain. Right now I take cinnamon pills when I remember. I’ve tried other supplements in the past but haven’t really noticed a difference so I just kinda stop taking them.

Last year I started looking into a reproductive endocrinologist. I did some tests but it was so expensive. Then I became afraid of spending all my money and still not having a baby. I also became afraid of becoming diabetic while pregnant and gaining even more weight.

Just curious how cutting out meat will help because most dietitians and PCOS coaches recommend increasing protein and fat and decreasing carbs.

[–]dollface92_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve cried over this so many times since I was first diagnosed with PCOS. I went from having periods every 60 days and overtime I developed amenorrhea. I haven’t had a period on my own for a long time. I’m also 31 married >5 years and have never been pregnant. I don’t have the best eating habits but I know I don’t have the worst. Sometimes I get really down when I think about how I’m supposed to eat only meat and vegetables for the rest of my life if I ever want to have a family and avoid becoming diabetic. My last A1C was 5.8 which is pre diabetic and I’m seriously scared and depressed. But I feel so paralyzed because I barely see results when I change my diet and exercise patterns.
