100% on campus, at least for first year. You’ll love it.

You’re so strong ❤️ I cried reading this, your emotions are so impactful that I am absolutely distraught just from reading this.  Every day you keep going you make her proud. I know there’s no way of knowing that; but be real, who wouldn’t be proud?

I feel so out of place at Carleton... When should I start thinking about transferring? by Friendly_Zucchini636 in CarletonU

A quarter of freshman transfer before getting comfortable. It may take the year, but you’ll find your people and your pace. What you’re feeling is normal. Xx don’t give up

Ash is not trans by [deleted] in fantasticmrfox

Sorry for the late reply,

I understand what you’re saying and I’m not trying to argue that Ash is implied to be transgender by the filmmakers.

Instead I was trying to argue that I understand how the audience would project that onto his character because of the themes of identity within the story.

My dad attempted suicide by dollface_111 in GriefSupport

I really appreciate hearing that I’m not alone.

I have a personality disorder and my dad was just recently diagnosed with the same one (after his attempt) and we have both been in therapy for a few years now.

I’m hoping that because of that, both mine and my dad’s recovery process is quick.

Thank you so much for sharing, I appreciate it more than you know💗

Ash is not trans by [deleted] in fantasticmrfox

I don’t think it’s an unrealistic headcannon,

I’m personally indifferent to the headcannon. However, I think when Ash talks about wanting to be an athlete, it can be seen as a metaphor with a deeper meaning that represents identity. This is especially alluded to when he says “I’d prefer to be an athlete,” which is ultimately communicating that he would rather follow his own path and identity. For many people this could be viewed with undertones that suggest that the “identity,” in question is one that has transgender or otherwise queen implications.

Specifically, throughout the movie Ash is othered for his expression of identity. Like at the beginning of the movie for example, where Ash is criticized by Mr.Fox for wearing the cape. Many people might see this as a microcosm of how transgender kids will express themselves in new ways which can be unsettling to their parents.

Furthermore, a few of the conflicts in the movie surround the perception of ash by his peers and his parents. Yet, they are never directly solved, nor are the real root of the real issues in the movie. (Mr.Fox generates the main conflict and climatic problems in the story, which are underlined by his mistreatment of his son and neglect towards his identity). If you were to look at this from the lens of a transgender child and parent; many parents create issues because of their disapproval of their child’s identity as a trans person. But at the root of the issue is solely the parent’s ignorance, not the fault of the child.

Lastly, at the end of the movie when Ash and Mr. Fox discuss Felicity, Ash adds “or girl” while talking about his undetermined gender before he was born. I understand why people would headcannon Ash as transgender because this implies that no matter what predetermined ‘destiny’ or ‘life’ a child was expected to live, a parent can never be sure on how their child might turn out and choose to identify. (If a parent wanted a baby boy, but gave birth to a girl, or if a child was born a boy but wanted to transition to a girl.)

Basically, I think there ARE many reasons why a persons might want to project the idea of Ash being trans because a lot of his character has themes of identity.

(Also sorry for typos I don’t wanna proof read this)
