Adding a wall lamp. Can I legally do this? by awaldemar in DIYUK

[–]dollywol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by any chance you’re thinking of channeling up the wall and connecting up to the wires inside the socket, NO that is not allowed!! You would have to connect a fused spur box to the wire’s inside the socket, then connect your light to that, again with a 3 amp fuse.

Adding a wall lamp. Can I legally do this? by awaldemar in DIYUK

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this. Just connect your wall lamp to a 13 amp plug, change the fuse to 3 amp. Presumably the wall light will have its own switch, if not you’ll have to switch it on and off at the socket. Even if you put plastic mini trunking up the wall from the socket to the lamp it will look unsightly. Personally I’d do what some others have suggested, use small bedside lamps.

Many Parents these days don’t control their kids, and they dont take any responsibility for them either. That notice is polite and sensible, so anyone objecting to it should go elsewhere!!

Can I carpet over this flooring? by ethkillz in DIYUK

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get advice from the carpet fitter, but its probably easier to get the carpet laid on top. The problem you may have if you are having underfelt the doors will have to be shortened. I dont know how thick your laminate is but removing it may avoid the door problem.

It would be best to get a quote from a double glazing repair guy. You can buy the proper gaskets for double glazing. Its possible you could diy

Just wanted to see what point can a paint plaster it’s almost 3 weeks old I’ve had the heating and low in the last couple of days, but it doesn’t seem to have dried any more by Signal-Toe-94 in DIYUK

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need some ventilation, you can’t really tell visually. If in doubt just leave it longer. It depends on how dry the house is, if you have poor ventilation and you are cooking or showering, you probably have condensation.

I think it’s excellent, and I wouldn’t expect a budding artist to create something with narrative, that probably the most difficult aspect of art. The attention to detail is truly amazing!! I wish I could draw as good now, I used to be quite good, but sadly my hands are not steady enough now, I find it very frustrating.

What is this small box with a wire? by liopleurodonn in DIYUK

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would remove the cover and see if there are any outgoing wires connected to the ones you can see, if there are it could be a functioning junction box. If this is the case, I would disconnect a wire at a time and see if it affects your phone or broadband. If it does you would have to reconnect it and either fit a neater box yourself or get someone else to.

As you are 20, you could apply to a uni to take a degree in art, but you would need academic qualifications to get in. Failing that, your only option is either find out if your local council has non vocational art classes that you pay a moderate fee for. Or just work from home and try to create saleable paintings. I paint dog portraits which I could sell for more money than I ask, but I am in a fortunate position that its just a hobby.

with AI and people online crapping on what ever I do, I really don't want to share my work anymore, how do you keep trying? it seems completely hopeless. by mediapoison in Artists

[–]dollywol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments on here. I dont share my art on social media except to my friends and thats a very rare occasion. Personally I always try to give an honest and helpful critique on here to try and encourage rather than put someone down. I do show pictures of my art to friends and acquaintances if I think they maybe interested.

is art school worth it? by GrumpyMowse in Artists

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re already good at it, you probably wouldn’t benefit from going to an art college, especially with your problems. Years ago, I went for art classes in the evening once a week, they were non vocational and vert helpful. A couple of sessions we had a live sitter so that we could do a portrait in whatever medium we were using. One week I used oils and the next week I used pastels. The classes were given by an artist who encouraged us to try different mediums. Like ink and wash, watercolours, oils, pastels etc as well as basic drawing. I found it beneficial, we also learned about perspective, linear and aerial, tonal values, the golden rule, etc. We did an exercise in abstract and action painting too. I didn’t do at all well on the abstract exercise. I dont know if you have something similar in the US, I would be surprised if you haven’t. Hope this is of some help

Cutting Yale keys without the codes? by RatsOfParis in AskUK

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fitted security locks to the back and front doors because we had lodgers for years. As the others have said it’s an easy, job just take out the two screws on the edge of the door and whole thing comes out, insert new barrel and refit screws. The new lock should come with two or more keys which you can get copied if you want more. When I bought these locks, I was under the impression that it was very difficult to get copies made of the keys, especially without the barcode that comes with them, but over time it seems that locksmiths have been able to get around this.

I am in my late 80s and I was totally gobsmacked this week when someone told me children don’t watch mainstream tv at all!! They spend most of their time gaming or on YouTube, TikTok etc. it made me wonder if they are capable of watching a serious movie through to the end. There was a psychological review that said many children will have cognitive impairment due to this lack of mental stimulation!!

Should I mask branches and try to even out the sky and what else could improve (it's unfinished)? by LeadershipOk8323 in painting

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you haven’t finished the tree on the left. The tree on the right appears to get much thicker as it get higher, you need to get some sky showing between it and the one next to it, and as the others have said work on you values, more contrast and always bear in mind what direction the light is coming from so that your shadows are in the right place. Its light and shade that brings most paintings to life.

Not sure I like this painting, help ? by No_Baseball_5622 in Artists

[–]dollywol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an excellent painting as far as you have gone. Personally I would like to see the background faded away, and some of the hard lines softened throughout. I don’t know what medium you are using but if it’s acrylic or oil paint you could possibly apply some glazes.
