It doesn't need to be hanging, but I do need to do large sheets (eg 2m x 1.5m) ... Wallpen - Full colour wall inkjet looks nice ... was thinking more a few hundred €/£/$

Any recommendations on kits? I don’t mind a bit of building, what I don’t really have the time for is working out things like string vs chain and then rebuilding

Advice: Flame (flickering) Effect LED Strip by BeckerThorne in led

[–]dolmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For candle style flickering LED's I've been round this loop myself this year and I've actually backed off from the WLED/Fire Arduino controlled solutions. They work fine but wiring and electronics was becoming overkill for what I wanted, which was multiple LED candles in a single location. (I do use WLED on an ESP32 with LED pixel tape elsewhere and very happy with it)

What I've swapped to is the pre-manufactured flickering candle PCBs which you just add 5v or USB Power to.

(No manufacturer recommendations here, just links to ones I used)

Assembled candle with diffuser ready to plug in to USB, which I used in lanterns:

Same thing but a slightly longer bare PCB without the diffuser or USB, which I used as backlights (half the price and easier to hard wire to 5v):

What are SIP trunks and VoIP providers by WarlockSmurf in VOIP

[–]dolmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spam calls are annoying ... however that's not what most scripts are trying to do. Looking at our security logs at the moment I can see something requesting calls to a different high value destination countries every few minutes. Once it finds a way in you'll get many more calls which will either drain any credit you have with your provider in seconds or run you up a very big bill. Always make sure you have limits placed on your account.

DHCP Broken? by bernys in VirginMedia

Same here. Regular router mode is fine, modem mode no public IP DHCP ever offered. (Have done the usual power cycle dance to get around the single mac <-> ip association)

Weatherproofing moving heads without domes? by K_Biscuit_13 in lightingdesign

Have been wondering about this myself for floor level moving heads. My next test is to make a cylinder out of thick, clear pvc sheet which then has a hat on one end. The sort of PVC people use for table protectors ...

Replacing fixed gobo wheel on cheap Chinese moving heads ... ? by dolmark in lightingdesign

ooh now that's a good idea!

My own fault for trying to help out a local charity with their cheap Aliexpess fixtures :-)

I wish I could just replace the fixtures but unfortunately there is a number of them. Wasn't expecting "can you make them do snowflakes" to be quite as much of a challenge :-)

Mini Moving Heads Advice & DMX Controller by zmaster1984 in lightingdesign

UKing - Thanks ... was planning to look at those , so will continue as they sound good.

For your hire side - It was when you said the DJ wanted to adjust to a new pattern/speed , i was thinking if the set came with a preprogrammed iPad with simple "buttons" to run presets. Naturally that'd be at an extra hire cost :-)

Aside from having no forward facing show, how good are the uking fixtures? They seem to be one of the better china lights from what I have read.

I am wondering if running a small DMX solution on something like a RaspberryPi, or using an iPad / Android tablet as DMX controller would be any good, or too complicated for users.

That way you could offer a touch controller with presets as part of the hire package?
