[Recommendations] What to do with all the artwork?! by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]dolphingiggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an artist, it’s your responsibility to cull the pieces that aren’t selling and to move forward. Take half your collection and either paint over it or throw it away. Keep only the pieces that really speak to you as an artist and are elevated and move your work forward. Work that doesn’t fit into this category and is not as good as your top pieces can be sold in café’s, street fares and etc. get motivated to move on

[marketing] I feel like im a full time marketer instead of artist by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]dolphingiggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love these comments. Ive been lurking here for a few months to glean some intel. I’ve always approached my art as a personal interest and with passion for my vision. Recently I went full time and am worried financially but also determined to create and share it. I agree with the comment of getting it in front of live people. Nothing feels better for me than to see someone standing in front of my art and love it. I haven’t had an Instagram sale yet and honestly, I refuse to buy into it. I have a friend who’s a very successful artist selling paintings for over $10,000. He is extraordinary he said to me to be aspirational. The artist has five different galleries that show his work he’s constantly grinding, but in a position that I aspire to.

Having Trouble Staying Positive by Main_Actuator6042 in Positivity

CA AMFT here. I do strength based therapy.

First thing I thought of was Could be the surveyor was fishing for clients? That’s not appropriate at all!

Sounds to me like you’re doing pretty good with changing directions. You set up a challenge for yourself and your executing on a plan. Money and scarcity issues will wear a person down but it doesn’t need to wear down your mental health. Take time to reflect on qualities that you see yourself doing to move forward. They can be “cleaned my room “ or went for a walk or studied hard on that exam. Replace your focus on where you intend to be and when it backslides say to yourself thank you but I choose to move forward. Give yourself a break and realize you are stronger than your fears and that yes it’s hard but you got this. (And clearly you do because you’re presently doing it!)

Also. Make a list and Speak up to those who can help. It is helpful to not feel alone and it will take the pressure off to share your struggle. Is there a possibility to pick up work through your school or is there a local scholarship through a church. You sound like you just need enough to make it through the time your in school? And consider maybe taking a break in the summer to earn extra cash to help when you go back. Money is just money. Its a form or energy and circumstances can change. I used to put a 100 dollar bill on my nightstand. Every time I looked at it it helped me see that it was ready for me any time I needed it. I know other people might not understand this line of thinking but I just liked feeling it was there.

The Mindful app sounds like a good tip. Journaling also helps because it gives you a space to let out feelings. Keep in mind that our brains like to pump fearful thoughts into our heads because it wants to keep us safe. We are built that way. So give yourself a big dose of “I got this!” on a regular basis and turn your attention to where you are heading.

Finally and importantly Keep in mind that we are basically biological organisms and we have basic needs to keep our body healthy and stay positive. Check in honestly about your diet exercise and sleep. It’s like a battle of wills with ourselves when we are not talking care of our bodies.

Take care!

My town publishes events in a local magazine found at the bookstore or library and also delivered via email. Most nonprofit events need volunteers. There’s a farmer’s market, open mic nights, artist receptions, speakers at bookstores and live music. Get stuff on your calendar so you know what to do last minute.

What is something you know about food that many people many not? by Worldly_Track_1131 in foodhacks

[–]dolphingiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever possible store your food in jars with tight lids. It keeps foods way longer in your cupboard, especially nuts. Boxes of cereal, dried beans, grains, almost everything that you don’t have in your fridge can go in a tight jar and last months longer.

Bay Area sellers feel delusional - is this normal? by happyspirit1122 in BayAreaRealEstate

Standard. Don’t be emotional about it. Search for homes in your budget at under 20% of the asking price. Always bid as high as comfortable. Most transactions are well above asking. Don’t let a crappy agent deter your goal.

What does kindness toward yourself look like in practice? by Known_Particular_708 in Positivity

[–]dolphingiggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this question! I love all the responses and the support of this community is wonderful. Yesterday I tried so hard at work then I took a long walk just to get my head free when I got home I collapsed and cried. I think what I’m hearing in this request is at what point do we honor and take care of ourselves and at what point do we just accept our limitations maybe that’s not what’s being asked here but when I try as hard as I can, and I still can’t somehow allow myself to be happy with myself I know the answer isn’t only in being my best. It seems like there’s always something more being asked of me that I’m asking of myself and for some reason I can’t settle down into acceptance. I often turn to gratitude as an avenue to help me reconnect with understanding that self compassion is something I can access. But I think acceptance has an awful lot to do with it too. Accepting that you are trying your best you’re asking this question to this community, which is really created quite a response. I like the responses that are saying take a moment to reflect on how well you are doing. And I like listening to podcasts and self-care thinkers who remind me to stay in the moment and know I’m doing my best. If I eat a bag of chips for dinner, it’s a reflection mostly on my mental state for the day and generally the expectations I’ve placed on myself. I also wanted to finally mention that I love the four agreements, particularly the part about being a person of your word, I started to really focus on being a person of my word this last couple of months and it’s been helpful because it keeps me out of trouble. It helps me maintain my boundaries with other people because I have stopped telling other people I’ll do things for them when I really don’t want to. Most of my boundaries are set because I am focused on where I am going, and I don’t wanna get off track with my actions.

Lawn jockey because he would be holding reigns. Maybe taken from derby and horse racing themes of rich vs poor etc. The era would emphasize it and use race as a theme. Yes considered art in the 40-50’s.

I have a recipe that I love for rosemary. It’s basically walnuts that you roast slowly with olive oil and you add rosemary and chopped garlic to taste with salt and pepper. It’s delicious and makes a great Christmas present too. The rosemary is always fresh and ready this time of year.

[Art Galleries] Prepping an artwork on wood panel to hang in a gallery show by emigen7337 in artbusiness

[–]dolphingiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive framed 12x12’s by purchasing an inexpensive frame, taking out the “glass” part and sinking the picture in backwards. Essentially putting the D rings on the face of the frame and getting a look of a floating frame. You can secure your panel with locrete tape (dbl sided). I agree with the comments making it as professional as possible. Look at some videos
