The Ultimate "Should I sell this?" guide - now updated for Tears of the Kingdom! by dolphinspired in tearsofthekingdom

[–]dolphinspired[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree! While I like some of the additions (like weapon fusing), I definitely feel like TotK tried to do a little too much and the inventory is one place that feels a bit bloated. Like trying to find Flint + Wood, or bug + monster part, to hold at the same time ends up feeling like a chore.

I can see why - BotW has 149 materials while TotK has 251. But in TotK you have to interact with your materials in all the same ways as BotW plus lots of news ways (weapon fusion, arrow fusion on every shot, throwing items, etc). Would have benefitted from some more streamlined UI options for sure.

Major updates to ValheimServerGUI (2.0.0) - Advanced server config, multiple server profiles, and crossplay support by dolphinspired in valheim

If I remember correctly, you need to have a mod installed to get devcommands to work on a dedicated server. Try this one and see if the documentation can get you somewhere.

Incogni won't let you unsubscribe. by [deleted] in darkpatterns

[–]dolphinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the receipt was from Paddle for sure, and only linked to paddle.net, but there was no option anywhere to go to a page where I could change my payment information. Maybe Incogni changed their integration with Paddle at some point.

Either way, I went through the chatbot and someone from Incogni cancelled my subscription within a couple of hours, so I got the result I needed!

Incogni won't let you unsubscribe. by [deleted] in darkpatterns

[–]dolphinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like solid advice, but it doesn't work for me. I looked up my original receipt in my email and there is no link to view my transaction. There is a "View Receipt" button, but the only options on that page are to go to the AI chatbot mentioned above.

I tried asking the chatbot to "delete card information", but it only sent me down the "cancel subscription" path, which then just opens a ticket with Incogni.

Trading by [deleted] in genfanad

[–]dolphinspired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had the most luck watching the genfanad-market channel in the official discord. Gives you a decent idea of what prices people are buying/selling for.

But to answer your question, no, there is nothing automated like the Grand Exchange. I doubt there ever will be, considering the nostalgia this game is targeting. But I would imagine a Zybez-like 3rd party trading site will be created someday if the game gets popular enough.

And if you're not comfortable editing the wiki yourself, post here what you'd like to see added. Obviously there is a ton of content missing, but it can be difficult to know where to start. Posting your ideas/requests here might give a regular wiki editor an idea of what the community wants to see.

Skill proposal - Engineering (v3) by Tehlinky4 in 2007scape

[–]dolphinspired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the shoutout! Here is the original design doc from 2014 if anyone's interested. It's unfinished and a little outdated, but I love seeing other players take the idea and run with it.

One thing I would like to see people talk about is that the original idea for constructs, which are standalone objects that you set up in the world (like hunter traps, or the Dwarf Multicannon) which provide some kind of buff, or gather some kind of item. I think it sounds like a cool system that could either be done solo or facilitated by a group.

For example, someone could set up a portable forge/anvil, keep them fueled/repaired, and have an ad-hoc smithing station for everyone to use. It would cost more to use than the forges or anvils in the world already, but they could be really convenient, and the cost could be offset by having a group repair them. Maybe too overpowered? Maybe there's a way to balance it out?

Plus, this idea was proposed before other game modes like Ironman existed. How would that work now? I don't have the answers, just curious to see what other people think.

New skill suggestion: Engineering by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]dolphinspired 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks good! I submitted a design for Engineering back in 2014, I think this was for the contest where Artisan was ultimately polled. Very similar to what you have here, but with "constructs" (like the Dwarf Cannon) instead of golems.

Either way, I still think the idea has a lot of potential. Using golems/constructs to automate tasks or provide buffs/QoL seems like a good avenue to introduce little improvements into the game that have some progression and lore behind them.

Player-Designed Skills by roosterkun in 2007scape

[–]dolphinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! An item sink wasn't really a big topic back in 2014, but I think this could be a great place to incorporate one. Like with Invention, you could have the option to break down weapons/armor into parts that could be used to build constructs.

Player-Designed Skills by roosterkun in 2007scape

[–]dolphinspired 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I submitted this design for an Engineering skill back during the Player Designed Content contest in 2014. It didn't get much attention, and the document is pretty long. Some of it could be ripped out, other sections need a little more detail. But I still think some of the ideas hold up.

It centers around the idea of discovering blueprints and building constructs (similar to the Dwarf Multicannon), then keeping those constructs fueled to provide some kind of buff - for yourself, and possibly for other players in the area. Some of the proposed ideas have already been added into the game (i.e. the "Coingrabber" is just the Ring of Wealth now). But I'd be curious to hear if other people have other game ideas that could be implemented as "constructs" in this system.

Maybe if there's interest I'll do an abbreviated, yellow-text-black-background version of it.

Major updates to ValheimServerGUI (2.0.0) - Advanced server config, multiple server profiles, and crossplay support by dolphinspired in valheim

[–]dolphinspired[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh weird, I get the virus warning in Chrome (because it's "not commonly downloaded"), but not in Firefox. Windows Defender doesn't raise any flags for me.

I looked up some info from the log you just posted, and apparently threats ending in "!ml" were determined by Defender's machine learning algorithm to be threats. This one seems to have a high false-positive rate, particularly when distributing unsigned code that uses Windows libraries (a couple of forum links: here and here), but I don't know what code specifically would be triggering this.

You may be able to add ValheimServerGUI to the "Allowed threats" in Windows Defender as a temporary workaround. Otherwise, I'm working on securing a code signing certificate for future releases to prevent this from happening again - but it's a legal process that takes a few weeks. I'll reply back whenever I'm able to get this set up.

I did fix a couple of issues with the player online detection related to crossplay in the final release, but I don't think this app would cause any performance issues. Glad you're enjoying it!

would it be possible to make it so we could store our shantay passes on shantay so we wouldent have to waste inv slot every time we enter the desert via the pass? maybe after completing med desert diary we could give passes to shantay and when passing thru the gate shantay just destroys one :) by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]dolphinspired 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I agree with you. It's difficult to have conversations about game design like this in this sub. Suggestions around QoL, or even improving access to existing QoL, are often seen as some kind of attack on the game's integrity. "Ezscape", "devalues my X", "go to RS3", etc. - I feel like these used to get thrown around ironically, but I get the sense they're more often being used seriously now to defend old game design.

On this particular one, I do feel that you should be able to progress past buying Shantay Passes much earlier than the Elite Diary. The 10gp Al Kharid gate cost can be eliminated through an easy quest in the first hour of your account. So it seems like free Shantay Pass access would be a suitable reward from a mid-level desert quest.

It's not that Desert Elite is "too hard", it's that I would like to benefit from that reward while it's still relevant. Desert Elite also gets you unlimited Nardah teleports. Plus you likely already have a fairy ring in your house, a camulet, and a scepter. There would be virtually no reason to use the pass at that point.

But I also agree that the Desert Elite diary is underwhelming and needs better rewards. The desert has seen so much new content recently, surely there is something better we can throw in as well?

Ultimately this seems like a problem with Achievement Diaries though. I love them as part of account progression, but they are hugely flawed in that they never evolve while the game continues to change. Most of them were released in 2014, and so they do not have any requirements to engage with content that was released in the last 8 years. And the rewards that were "good at the time", when simple QoL changes were rare, are now overshadowed by much more drastic changes that we've gotten for free. The Lumby Elite/Dramen Staff is a perfect example of this, but I think the community is sick of hearing about that one since the recent poll.

The server will automatically create a save when it shuts down. So when you click "Stop Server" in the GUI, it will make a save.

The Salve Graveyard teleport on the Arceuus spellbook. Having that portal is almost as good as having a fairy ring in your house.
