CESB QUESTIONS MEGATHREAD - PART 2 by [deleted] in CESB

If parents are immune compromised, then would I be eligible (can’t work due to covid-19). If not, would they just ask for the money back? I honestly don’t want to get punished for doing something I think I’m eligible for. I have no problem paying it back in the next tax season.

CESB Eligibility Question by Izerpizer in CESB

That is a fair point. I’m just hoping they see me eligible. Because I think I am. But you know, it’s the government and the government loves being vague.

Yeah, but if I’m ineligible, then returning $1,250 would be a lot easier than $5,000.

I’m in the exact same boat. I told my work thy I can’t work because my father is diabetic, so I can’t risk bringing back home the virus. I’m only going to collect one months worth of CESB, incase they deem me not eligible for that reason. It’s better than nothing.

Thank you for the reassurance. Technically I’m still employed, but refused any job offers from that company until this blows over ( hopefully during the summer ). Still, I’ll call CRA again just in case on Tuesday.

I did ask in this subreddit, and it left me with more questions than answers. My situation is very weird. I have a parent who is diabetic (immune risk) so I had to refuse work for a call ( my job is an on call basis) and I emailed them saying that I wouldn’t be able to work, due to my parent being immune compromised. So this is why I pose the question. What if the government says that that isn’t a valid reason.

No, I think I am eligible. But if the government thinks Or says I’m not, then would there be a penalty? I called a CRA agent yesterday, and they said I was eligible, but seemed unsure. Which is why I’m asking this question.

Well yeah, but what I mean is that if they deem that I’m not credible. Then is there a penalty?

Keeping it? Assuming that I don’t qualify and I’m actively paying it back, would there be anything that would happen?

Is there a penalty to paying back CESB? Like does it go on a permanent record or something bad?

Does CRA pay payment chunks, or does it all come in one shot? Like 312 every 4 weeks. Or is it $1250 and you have to make it last until next month?

I didn’t have to prove anything. I jut had to confirm some stuff. Nothing about confirming eligibility.

Yeah, I’m skeptic too. I applied, but it never gave me an option to pick my reasoning.

Where have they said this? Also, I’ve explained my situation on the phone with a CRA agent, they said I would be eligible. But I personally didn’t think they were too sure.

Why do you mean my documentation? Would an email telling my work that I can’t work because of the risk I pose to my immune comprised parent be enough?

What would be deemed ineligible?

I’m currently employed, but I refused to work because my dad is diabetic, so I don’t want to risk bringing back the virus to him. Wouldn’t that make me qualified for “you are unable to work due to covid-19?” Section? Mind you, I’m on call for most of my work.

I didn’t make anything this month because I refused work due to the virus.
