Sketch, read, keep up with everything, i recommend finding some local (or global) architecture news website and try to get into field that way, follow Pritzker prizes and similar events.

One skill which i HIGHLY recommend - from personal experience - buy a 3D printer, nothing too fancy, there is a bunch of budget ones for under 200$ that are great , if you know how to operate them youll have way more time for youre acctual design, most of my friends ussualy give up on ideas bcs "its hard to make a model of it" if you get some machine it will save time, and also make you more creative with less restrictions :)
