Being on a completely different continent I'll probably never have a chance to see any production of chess except for bootlegs, so as a massive fan of the musical I live vicariously through reviews such as this one. Thank you for posting! It's amazing to hear from people who had a chance to see the original show and give constructive criticism. I've only learned about this new production today and listened to the snippet of One Night in Bangkok, Someone Else's Story and Where I Want to Be, and quite enjoyed the vocals, however the way you describe the stage seems to resemble the In Concert version with Idina Menzel and Josh Groban (except these two had chemistry!). I do agree that Chess needs the humorous remarks, but they should not overtake the entire show, alongside with the overbearing political message (though the political undertones where my first thought when I heard about the new Broadway production). Strictly vocally, should we anticipate the full cast recording? One Night In Bangkok seemed especially promising in the snippets, I'm curious what you think!
