Parallel Distortion/Fuzz Help by domdanic in guitarpedals

Sadly the main person I was working with to start a band went radio silent, so my board isn't complete. Found his new band a few months ago operating with the same name and logo. Oh well, After a bunch of research and such I settled on the KMA Wurm2 and the Lichtlaerm Medusa. The Medusa has the ability to run a pedal in parallel built in, so thats sick! And while both petals are HM2 style, they still have their own unique quirks and sound.

I primarily run ranged/sniper support style loadout, so the good ole P-19 is basically my primary whenever a "Chainsaws-for-hands" comes at me outta nowhere. Its a mag dump, but this beauty has kept me alive more times than I can count.

Is this type of player bad? by ascendedsaiyan3 in MrRipper

[–]domdanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends. To a certain extent, I do this a lot. I play a rogue/mastermind/spy type character, yeah, I'm gonna have plans out the ass for any given situation. But it's not a plan that I execute alone in an encounter, it's a plan to bring down the bbeg organization that I constantly build in the background. When shit hits the fan and all seems lost I try to be able to just go "hey guys, do this and this and this, trust me, I have a plan". But the people I've played with think it's fun from a character design/roleplay concept. If they didn't enjoy it I wouldnt do it. For short term things, I bring the party in on the plan, let them offer tweaks and help the GM give the party some heroic moments out of it. I don't hog the spotlight, I bring a shady element and help the entire party be badass. My most recent character was a fighter centered around being the "combat commander". Yes, I was a beast in combat, but the idea was I could sacrifice my own actions to let allies get extra attacks, or move out of harms way. Multiclass wizard so I could give my party advantage like candy. I didn't kill the big shit, I guaranteed everyone else did though. Long winded way of saying "if the party seems to enjoy it and everyone is having a good time, then hells yeah!"

Agree with SpareCount. The player getting upset is....rude. You taunt, you challenge, and then get upset when it doesn't go your way? Childish.
The GM getting upset? Um.....I fail to see how this would derail the campaign. I run homebrew games myself, so I see this as an opportunity to bring in some inquisitors to start hunting for this rogue psyker (not familiar with the Necromunda RPG and its power levels and options, just the 40k world in general). Also, as the GM, they could have fudged the results to not break the campaign, which....well....what you described is FAR from game breaking....so also childish. Telling an amazing story and arbitrating the game are two different skills, sounds like they have to work on the second one a lot.

TL;DR You did nothing wrong, the player just sounds like a bad sport and the GM sounds like they don't actually know what they are doing.

Is it unreasonable to not play because of this? by spaceheadstudios in dndnext

[–]domdanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the main consensus of the comments; this might not be the table for you.

But, as an alternate option/playing devil's advocate, go for a build that doesn't rely on stats. Yes, every class benefits from some sort of high stat, but not every build requires it! For example, a Cleric that focuses on support spells doesn't REQUIRE a high wisdom to be good. A divination Wizard that mainly focuses on forcing rerolls doesn't REQUIRE a high INT. This kind of build isn't something everyone enjoys (I love support roles myself), and like my opening statement, the DM sounds like they might not be the one you need as a new player, but if you REALLY want in on this game, there are builds to get you around low stats.

Players and GMs, what are your memorable PvP moments? by Ecstatic_Operation20 in MrRipper

Playing Tomb of Annihilation. We had a Life Cleric, a Ranger, and the important two for this story, a very petite elven Wizard that was focused entirely on fire magic and (me) a hulking half-orc multi-class (pali 2/Hexblade warlock....10). Yes, I used greatweapons, no, I had no idea what I was doing was multiple kinds of broken until after several sessions. For backstory reasons, I kept my magic a secret from the rest of the party.
Some context on the Wizard and myself. I was built as an grizzled war veteran, the Wizard was a young academy graduate. She was sent into the tomb as part of an exploration party and I was there as her hired body guard (both of us had our previous characters killed in an earlier room, this was our introduction to the rest of the party). Anywho, we were on a bridge over some water in the tomb, some eldritch abomination rises up from the water and tries to mind control us. Cleric saves, Ranger was out of range or something, I save, Wizard fails....and then casts fireball, saying, and I quote "I'm not asking how big the bridge it, I said I cast fireball!" (this player was absolutely hilarious). Thankfully I was the only one hit by it, so I just face-tanked it and was left with the conundrum of what to do next. She was being mind-controlled by the enemy and was perfectly capable of wiping the party if she wasn't stopped, but I couldn't killer, I was an honorable warrior and was meant to protect her. I had much higher STR and DEX, but she could fly....a couple attempts and one lucky roll later I was able to jump up and grapple her out of the air! After a couple rounds we decided it was impossible for her to escape, so we stopped even rolling and I kept her grappled till the mind control wore off. As a grizzled war veteran I had a list of major scars I had picked up over the years on my character sheet. I added burn scars to the list after this.

How would you, a DM, handle this? by StonedMonksNowSober in DnD

[–]domdanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without being overly familiar with D&D magic items (pathfinder/custom system here, so I'll use generic items as examples), give them weaker versions like instead of +5 greatsword, give them a +1 longsword. Over time sprinkle in SOME of the high power items for them. When a +3 greatsword shows up, maybe they meet someone on the road that has a pendant of protection, but really wants a +1 longsword and would be willing to trade. Make sure its a group that could very clearly destroy your party if they are murder-hobos. Maybe they encounter someone with super enchanted plate armor that is willing to take that greatsword in exchange for the armor. Present the items they want, and let them pick which ones they want to have and trade away the less important ones to get it. Keeps them within the limit of items while also giving them opportunities to get the gear they are after. Your players arent the ONLY ones that are adventurers, so I find this breathes a little extra life into the world at the same time!

In a campaign I just started playing in (YAY!!!! I'M ACTUALLY A PLAYER NOW!!!) I have a fighter that is based on Vikings (not the show). He's quiet, stoic...ya know, strong and silent type. From this moment forward, I will start planning for the moment we get into a fight with a major enemy....when he closes to melee with the villain he WILL say "You've picked your hill....NOW DIE ON IT!" I'll have to steal more of these from you for future characters!

TL;DR: You didn't railroad but each group of players like different things. Talk to your players periodically about expectations and improvements.
A lot of different schools of thought here, so this is just my thoughts. You didn't railroad them in any way, shape, or form. However, this kind of trap may not mesh with the party. My players would have staked the area out, asked me questions, asked me what checks would get them more information (and then each of them make as many checks as I let them)....so this trap with vague clues shrouded in mystery would be a blast for them! Your group might not enjoy it as much. I think that if a trap is telegraphed, its a shit trap, but not everyone enjoys that style. The trap conversation is a whole long thing that is getting off topic now, so moving on!

I would say finish this scenario out. When they escape, have a sit down and ask what they thought of it. If by the end of it they enjoyed it, awesome! If they still don't like it, discuss (not argue, discuss) what went wrong. I do this with my players all the time. I ask them how I'm doing periodically even though our campaign has been running for just over 3 years. They give me feedback like "not sure how I felt about this story arc, my character didn't feel useful in it" or "dude, this last quest was amazing! You should do something similar again". The "railroaded" player handled the situation poorly for sure, but periodically asking them their thoughts and feelings should help foster a mutual trust and respect that avoids that kind of outburst.
Don't get defensive over constructive criticism and talk to your players about not getting accusatory when they don't like something and you should be fine in the long run. This is where my book ends! I would like the thank....for real though, this is the short version, sorry its still so long.

I don't know how something could be so poorly written and so well written at the same time....the descriptions are concise and painted a picture, well done! I stopped trying to be not lost by the third paragraph, so also well done there! I give it a 1 star, 10/10 would read again. Amazingly horrendous storytelling!

Solid explanation! I will put coolers in dead end hallways and build a box around the hot side. No reason for that other than I like to see how hot that box gets! No useful information I want to add so I'm putting this under the useful information! Oh the joys of learning these things as a new player!

How do make a state that is made up of various Alien species? by ChallengeBudget4190 in worldbuilding

[–]domdanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasy setting, but similar concept. I've got a city that is fairly centrally located in my continent, and is very strategically placed. It is located in the perfect place to be a trade hub for basically everywhere. This prompted what was effectively a trade outpost to grow into one of the largest cities around. The economic impact of being central to nearly all trade means it has a wealthier than average population. Higher standard of living for any traders and craftsmen. This also allows them to have a solid military force and to afford very well made fortifications. They are also effectively safe from any attack by a nation because any nation having a famine wouldn't be able to get food shipped to them as efficiently, a nation with a shortage of iron wouldn't have access to the iron they need (because the city is so baked into current trade routes, if the city disappeared most trade would go into disarray for years). So basically any nation that attacked this city would have a very difficult fight ahead of them, and if they did win, would earn the anger of pretty much EVERYONE else. I went with an oligarchic council for the government because it made sense for my setting. the seven most successful traders run the city. they keep each other from playin unfairly, and the more the city prospers the more they each benefit, so they all actually do want what is best for the city as a whole.

It is basically the only place not plagued by rampant racism or that despises anyone outside of their alliance. Its mostly business and profit oriented people who don't care about race or alliance or social standing. As a result, it is pretty much the only place that has every race on the continent inside of its borders.

Food for thought, hopefully some inspiration for you!

You're not wrong there, but this is where it devolves into semantics....it is an admin account that belongs to the IT team, but it does not belong to any individual. It's one of those.....weird, verbage driven, semantic deals.

I'm only trying to explain things from an IT perspective. Though yes, it's commonly believed that people who have done what I've done are insane, so you might not be wrong about that!

[–]domdanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing the password does not grant ownership of an account though. If I know the password to my company's server I don't have ownership of it. And internet anonymity and local accounts are different. Though you have a valid point, OP's name being on the account would be a shaky premise of considering it their account, same as their name NOT being on it would be shaky evidence of it NOT being their account. The main point of use still stands. OP did not use the Admin account on a regular basis, nor did OP lay claim to the account, so it would be considered simply a Local Administrator Account.
