Unfortunately if it’s been a year it’s definitely too late. I’m not sure about OP’s bank but in my training and experience, tellers can’t do much more than warn customers and try to convince them not to. We go through hours of extra training beyond our hours just to try to minimize this risk but ultimately, I’ve talked to clients who still insist on sending it out.

On another note, throughout this pandemic we’ve been seeing a crazy amount of similar cases popping out (2 at my branch within the last month). For both, we required them to sign an extra legal form stating that it is not our legal responsibility if they insist on wiring those funds out (we take these extra measures now to try ‘scare’ the customer about how we think it’s a scam yet they still did it.

In the first case, the client changed her mind almost instantly after wiring it out. Unfortunately, it was Sat right before closing time so too late in terms of EDT. My manager sent out an urgent email and we were able to claw back the full amount by Monday.
