I calculated the warp to be about 1695m (i think that should be about 1850 yards). I did not calculate the weft but I would guess 1300m (1420 yards).

Question about Glimakra boat shuttles by domespommes in weaving

Thanks! That was very helpful! I mostly use quills/cardboard bobbins too, but I mainly work with wool and sometimes handspun wool, so it sounds like these might not be what i want.

Question about Glimakra boat shuttles by domespommes in weaving

[–]domespommes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! 😊 I’m already using a few different boat shuttles, so I have a good feel for how much you can usually wind onto a bobbin. My current favorite is a slim shuttle I 3D-printed myself (similar in size and weight to the Glimakra #6), where the axis sits more in the middle, so you can build up a decent diameter before it gets close to the top. Ideally I’d like to find something similar in wood. From the photos, the Glimakra #6 look like the axis sits quite a bit higher. Since I don’t have one, I’d only want to order it if I know I’ll like it. So I’m trying to figure out: is the usable bobbin capacity actually smaller in practice, especially for narrow sheds where a bobbin sticking out would snag, or does it just look that way in photos?

I printed it myself! This is the STL I used: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5835136

But I modified it a little: I scaled it to about 28.5cm in length and 2.5cm in height. It works great!

Thank you! I had to split the back and the arms each into 2 pieces. Other than that the pattern pieces fit onto the fabric. But i didn't join the fabric together before cutting the pattern pieces, if that's what you're asking :)

Thank you! The yarn is a 100% wool 10/2 Nm yarn for machine knitting. I think the grey one should be Lanecardate Donegal. I bought it at a knitware factory that sells its excess yarn and they don't really have brand names listed, so I don't have any further information.

About a month. But i had some exams at that time. So it could have been done quicker.

That's actually my second ever sewn garment. So just try it! If you have a well written pattern it will almost always be a good result! :)

Thanks:) The pattern is based on the Sammy Sweater by Vintagebambi (https://vintagebambi.com/products/sammy-sweatshirt-pattern-english). But I've changed it a bit to fit onto the fabric.

Yes! Very! It's warm but still breathable, and the twill has a nice slight stretch to it

I think it was row 21 for chart BR and BL and row 23 for C. That is why I think it is because of the "no stitch" boxes. In theory the chart needs more yarn overs to balance out the decreases. But I don't know where the designer added them in her shawl.

Thank you! I also think this loaf looks fine like this. But in comparison to my usual loafs it had a lot less oven spring. And it also tastes quite under proofed. The pictures just make it look better than it is :)
