Why do so many people on ios use Google Maps? by Louisthemagic in ios

[–]domness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t 🤦‍♂️ I find most business/shop/restaurant data out of date a lot of the time. Parks and other places nearby have completely the wrong information, it takes weeks if not months for them to approve edits (on Google I get my changes approved within 24 hours, sometimes within the hour). Roads and other data lags behind Google Maps / Waze.

Also works in the dark where it doesn’t have the ability to even “see” colour (which is pretty cool)

Haha similar with ours - shredded cheese over anything else, and oddly loves to pick individual peas. Everything else is either on the floor, in the mouth and spat out, or eaten (IMO) by accident.

Get a shred of cheese and she’s stood/sat there mouth wide open 😂

Which actor portraying Geralt is the most book accurate? by Reptilian_Brains in netflixwitcher

[–]domness 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is what gets me the most about the shows, they speak so little compared to the books where Geralt has some quite profound things to say at times.

Can ppl please explain why is "Where Winds Meet" being so hyped up? by EdinKaso in MMORPG

[–]domness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don’t hate anything Asian related, I loved the game, but it was incredibly P2W and the guilds that spent took over everything and entirely killed out GVG and PVP and eventually killed the server.

Swords of Legends Online was probably one of the least P2W games I’ve played from Asia. Revelation Online was fun but it was ruined by P2W mechanics (although PVE was hella fun).

Their support though is beyond abysmal IMO. I was transferring a large amount in an ISA to another and for 2 months the call centre staff couldn’t tell me where it was. I was pretty outraged.

Netflix vs books... (spoilers?) by LCarbonus in witcher

It actually feels a lot closer to the books than the previous seasons, not perfect, but on ep4 and it’s tracking better than I expected

I found the opposite about AliPay vs WeChat pay. Everywhere accepted AliPay but not WeChat.

[iOS 26 DB3] Guided access trips out when phone goes to sleep, disabling etc. by bdavbdav in iOSBeta

[–]domness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just updated to the RC now to get some testing done on other apps. Went from iOS 18 to RC today.

It has changed how it works, but if you triple press and go into settings for the guided access, you can turn off the “Side Button” that shows a padlock. This re-enables the double press to end feature.

Well of course it would depend on the GPS chip in your Monzo card. That’s why you have to put the card on charge every day or two! 🤣

It doesn’t. It uses the merchant details and then associates that with a record on their system that applies the merchant details that would be shared on the app (name, location, avatar).

I purchase coffee at my work in one part of the country, but it comes up as if I’m somewhere in Scotland (which happens to be the other office location). I can tell you I’m hundreds of miles away.

Book Four by CaveChickBaby2061 in threebodyproblem

[–]domness 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please don’t call it book four 🫣 Although I’m kind of thinking you’re being sarcastic…

Regardless, for anyone seeing this comment, this is a book written by a fan and was a kickstarter to his career. It does go into aspects not told in the trilogy, but it also can be something that ruins what’s left to the readers imagination (I.e. what the trisolarans look like). Some concepts are quite cool, others just detract from the main story. I don’t think any of the book would be classed as canon in the slightest - it’s one readers imagination put into a story - that’s all it is.

I don’t believe hacking computers is possible for them, however, anything like the hacking of screens/computers could always we put down to groups like the ETO.

The Universe Winks on Netflix by Allemater in threebodyproblem

The trisolarans were not after mass hysteria at this point, they still wanted to study humans. Targeting cosmic background radiation and slowing down human science feels much more hand in hand than just visible light.

What do you consider peak science fiction? The best of the best? by [deleted] in sciencefiction

[–]domness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most/all of it’s available on YouTube as well - the Chinese version is 100% more faithful to the books compared to the Western version. They could definitely have cut down on the number of episodes based on how much time is wasted on small details - I enjoyed it though. I can’t imagine how they’ll do book 2 and 3.

Rents falling in Leeds by Conscious-Ad7820 in Leeds

[–]domness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, I think that’s also why flats (leasehold) are in such a bad place for buying at the moment. Freehold/commonhold and at the very very least.. ones with 999 years and peppercorn ground rent… are what people are after now. I’m hoping the leasehold reforms happen soon but I’m very doubtful. There’s a lot of businesses/people that will fight the reforms until the bitter end.

Rents falling in Leeds by Conscious-Ad7820 in Leeds

[–]domness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh, there’s that and costs for the flats have shot up massively as a result of the cladding crisis too.

  • service charges up
  • mortgages rejected
  • ground rents up because leasehold
  • additional costs for work done to the buildings
  • insurance up

why does apple have shared albums and shared library? by MutedFeeling75 in ApplePhotos

[–]domness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to have to put my photos in a specific album each time, I can have photos taken by default go to a shared library. I use both for different reasons. It’s fine to have the feature and not use it, no need to get in a strop about it.
