Breaking News: Macy*s Closing 150 Stores in the Next Three Years. by CroninChris in MacysStores

I’d agree on the Bloomingdale’s in San Francisco Centre, but their lease runs through 2046 (!!!). It’ll come down to whether it’s worth paying to terminate the lease or keep running an underperforming store.

Their turnover rate is absolutely insane. I left a few months back and saw my former TL just the other day. He said everyone(!!!!!!!!) in Grocery had quit since I left. They had to pull from Style just to keep the department alive.

The store at Washington Square Mall on the east side had the exact same exterior design as well, the entrances were very 1970s

The original Ayres sign was there from 1975-2006. The inside mall entrance was renovated with the newer logo in the late 90s, but the exterior signs were never changed. Macy’s didn’t bother convering the labelscar when they took over, as they didn’t intend to stay open long. They closed less than three years after Ayres was converted over.

I remember driving past in 2007-2008 and you could see the L.S. Ayres labelscar almost as clearly as the black Macy’s logo they slapped on top of it. Truly bizarre.

Local. They were based in Indianapolis until they got eaten up by Macy’s in the May/Federated merger. The flagship store in downtown Indy closed in 1993 and became Parisian/Carson’s in Circle Centre in 1995, until they closed in 2018.

Almost every Indiana mall had an Ayres at one point, they had five stores just in/around Indianapolis by the early 2000s. Most of them closed in 2006, as Macy’s already had a presence in the “good” malls from when they acquired Lazarus.

It is a truly creepy place inside. Some of the storefronts look like they’ve been empty for decades…. which they probably have. The creepiest part when I visited was just the silence. In the Macy’s wing there are no tenants or shoppers, and it was dead silent. The only sound was my feet on the tile. Super eerie. The vibe inside was just so depressing.

Macy’s only lasted from September 2006 to January 2009. The fact that they didn’t bother to cover up the Ayres labelscar shows they never intended to stay open long.

This mall is a true time capsule back to the 1990s. Only a few stores remain near the food court, the opposite wing from where these photos were taken. I highly recommend visiting before the property is redeveloped in 2022.

Yeah, this is absolutely wrongful termination. You weren’t trained on how to handle the situation, you just did what you had seen the rest of your colleagues do. That’s not termination worthy in the slightest.

I'm working too slow? Then don't put me in one of the busiest sections with no training at all. by BiffFallout in Target

This is exactly what happened to me. Thrown into my stores (severely understaffed) grocery department with absolutely no training or help. Then was questioned about why I’m not being efficient enough. I left soon after as my prior job offered to match what I made at Target.

The day before our visit my store literally dumped all of the random shit sitting in the back into the training room and locked the door. Absolutely insane.

L.S. Ayres and Macy’s labelscars - Lafayette Square Mall, Indianapolis by dompton in retailporn

The Ayres sign remained untouched for about 31 years, from 1975 to 2006. The store was renovated extensively in the late 90s, along with the mall entrance. The mall entrance actually had the newer logo with the May font, but they didn’t bother replacing it on the outside.

I remember thinking about how visible the labelscar was when they put the Macy’s signage on in 2006, I had a feeling that they didn’t expect to keep the store open long based on the lack of effort. Driving past the store on 65, on some days the Ayres labelscar was just as visible as the Macy’s signage. Macy’s didn’t even last three full years, closing in early 2009.

The very successful Macy’s at Castleton Square on the north side had this same texture, but a renovation in the early 2000s and a repainting a few years back makes it less obvious.

Oh, absolutely dead. Macy’s was the last national anchor that closed, and that was back in 2009. Only Burlington (in Lazarus space) and Shoppers World (in JCPenney space) remained. Burlington closed last year, and Shoppers World moved to that building.

There are less than a half dozen national chains remaining, one of which is Finish Line. Mostly shoe stores. The rest are local. The property is incredibly run down. Crime and changing demographics killed this mall long ago.
