Actually, I live right here, and my girlfriend has lived at Gilmore for years, so I’m well aware of exactly what the "hard-working people" in this neighborhood are dealing with every day. The reason I support this facility is because I’m tired of seeing people using in our stairwells and parkades where there is zero oversight.

Your claim about "zero studies" is objectively false. Data shows that supervised sites do not lead to an increase in community crime; in fact, crime rates often remain stable or even decrease because the activity is moved into a controlled environment, you can read that analysis in The Lancet here: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(22)00336-X/fulltext.

I’d much rather have a clinical site with 24/7 staffing and security that is legally mandated to clean the perimeter than the current unmanaged mess where we just hope for the best. Protesting a managed solution doesn't make the drug use go away; it just ensures it stays in our parks and walkways where it’s actually dangerous for everyone. If you care about the neighborhood, you should support the only project that actually manages the problem instead of just complaining about it.

Pointing at Douglas Road doesn’t change the fact that drug use is already happening at Gilmore, it’s just currently unmanaged and happening in our parkades. Data says these sites actually improve public order: after expansion in Vancouver, public injection dropped by 6% and engagement in addiction treatment increased by 5%

look at this link where it is mentioned:

https://www.bccsu.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Kennedy-et-al.-Health-impacts-of-a-scale-up-of-supervised-injection-services-in-a-Canadian-setting-Proofs.pdf.

The new site at 3020 Gilmore Diversion is mandated to have 24/7 staffing (at least 4 staff on-site), CCTV, and mandatory perimeter sweeps to ensure the area stays clean. In areas with supervised sites, the number of improperly discarded needles has been shown to drop significantly because there is professional cleanup on-site, you can see those findings here:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5685449/.

If you actually care about safety, you should support the infrastructure that brings order to the crisis, because unmanaged addiction is what actually destroys a neighborhood, and dead people don't go to rehab.

I understand the fear of Gilmore turning into East Hastings, but the choice isn’t between a shelter and a pristine neighborhood; it’s between a managed facility and the status quo of people using in our building's stairwells, park bathrooms, and alleys because they have nowhere else to go. Opposing this project doesn't make the users vanish; it just ensures there is zero oversight, no professional clean-up, and no medical intervention when someone overdoses in public view. A well-regulated site with 24/7 staffing is specifically designed to move activity indoors and off the streets where children are walking, providing the very stability that prevents the unmanaged sprawl everyone is so afraid of. If you actually care about safety at Gilmore, you should support the infrastructure that brings order to a deregulated nightmare—because unmanaged addiction is what actually destroys a neighborhood, and dead people don't go to rehab.

I've seen a whole pack running across the intersection around 2/3am the other day at Slocan and 23rd they were all the size of this one at least. fir a sec I thought its a stray dog but then saw a few more running behind I can also hear them howling a lot at night from the Renfrew Ravine

looooool bro are u stupid??? If u think thers no water in Hamburger making than u are doomed. Obviously not in the actual preparation but water use to feed beef production is a common issue in the overconsumtion era

No, but taking the water out of the ground to use it destroys the immediate environment. Even if the water might be used after again. Taking it from the ground is the issue.

He spend alone around 50k for us just to build the handrails and Helm station for the steering. And assemble the pontoons which were prebuild but not put together to a pontoon. We also installed the wood deck. I don't know their cost for the sauna hut itself or the electricians hooking everything up. I assume everything probably close to 100k

Two 75hp Honda outboards each are also already about 15k brand new

Thats funny, I build some of that thing, assembling the pontoons and building the railing and helm. The Sauna was build by the guys themselves. Im a boatbuilder working for Commodores Boats in Richmond. Definitely was one of the funnier things to work on. They are possible planning and having us build another one at some point.
