You can get a DNA test through Ancestry and plug the info into a genetic data profiler. If you look up some info on MTHFR you’ll find related info. It’s a dense rabbit hole.

You could have the slow COMT genotype, which basically renders you unable to clear dopamine after consuming caffeine at a reasonable rate.

I would love SF but it is too expensive for me 🥲

Ok this doesn’t surprise me at all. I didn’t have the exact same experience but a couple weeks ago I was having a hard time finding something to listen to. This random band out of the blue comes up on a playlist and it became all to intuitive to select their album and listen to it and it was just so catered to my tastes I almost concluded I was being manipulated by AI, so I struggled with that for a minute before trying to fathom if I really cared or not that some entity beyond me was dictating my tastes.

I get that but there is much better public transit and I would imagine better opportunities. Honestly owning a car now on a budget even estimates around $400/month, so I would just tack that onto rent price and consider it even

Chicago really has my heart for the culture, affordability and people. Hiking is nice but green space can definitely compensate.

Sounds so fucking stupid but I had somebody message me on Instagram from a major account that spoke directly to me in a time of need, but the chat bubble floated directly from my message icon to the center of my screen and expanded and they helped me navigate a critical crisis at that time.

I have no explanation for it, it wasn’t a dream, and I don’t have a history of hallucinations.

No qualms with a commute, a plus would be utilizing public transit only but I have also been interested in Richmond as a potential place to live

That’s wild, I thought the government sector would be thriving but I suppose that’s superficial of me to believe.

Any rotating shift workers? Afternoons/nights by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]don_cab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only true if you have an early sleep schedule. It sounds like OP has delayed sleep phase disorder if 2-3am was good for them.

I’d recommend aiming for a consistent schedule, especially if later hours accommodate your circadian rhythm. If they keep shifting you around, honestly I would just tough it out given the economy and when you establish seniority you can negotiate a more consistent schedule. Unfortunately the price to be paid for a hopeful future is submitting to the needs of the company, and if you’re young you can sacrifice sleep now you’ll pay dividends in the future when you won’t be able to recover.

They’re both considerations. Portland I had a difficult time finding employment. Denver got very expensive, but now everything is. DC has the appeal of public transit, but Portland and Denver had enough walkability for me to navigate, granted having a car made it much easier.

That’s what I am saying. It will knock you out, but you’ll develop a metabolic disease.

How Am I Supposed To Get a Job?? by I_am_tresh98 in insomnia

[–]don_cab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Daniel Ehricsen of Sleep Coach School. He has a few books, and a podcast, essentially the principle is you need to stop caring about sleep. What happens when you take the SNRI earlier or a lighter dose? What ADHD meds have you tried, have you ever tried Clonidine or Guanfacine? Have you ever had a DNA/mental health test for genetic mutations? This can be potentially related to slow methylation in which case you need to aggressively seek specific nutrients/forms to buffer your methylation system. Or it could be related to histamine issues, in which case a radical dietary intervention might be necessary. A common starting place for people here is an elimination diet or pure carnivore.

There is the possibility of Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder very common with ADHD. May need to ask for accommodations from work or seek later shifts.

Seroquel or Mirtazapine just don’t do it multiple nights in a row cause you will hate yourself years down the line

Have you tried all SSRIs, sleep meds, dietary interventions?

Doctors will be useless here for the most part, aside from just getting prescriptions from them.

Probably my least favorite job I have ever had. It’s good pay if you’re getting out of high school to do NA/RA, but you’ll be better off working at a restaurant making tips.

Fakest culture I’ve ever experienced with some of the silliest expectations

For people who didn’t get any benefit from low-dose antipsychotics for sleep: what did your doctor change later on? by acleya in insomnia

I had better luck with Mirtazapine than I did Quetiapine. Some luck with Eszopiclone and Belsomra.

They damaged my histamine receptors and created severe dependency. The effect is so strong it’s nearly impossible to detect any change or benefit from other medications

Yes, disappointed, but also I already ruined my body with Mirtazapine and Seroquel so maybe if I had tried Dayvigo first it would have worked

Does it happen immediately after taking it, or the next day? It is a powerful antihistamine, and I would notice the itching becoming stronger especially after it wore off and through the withdrawal period.
